I don't even see that with Cingular in Dallas to my SBC landline -- just
"Wireless Call" and the cellular number.

Re: Caller Id - Is this correct ?

Correct, it's a corporate discount business plan. I don't know enough
about the repair business to open up my own shop.

In all honesty, it was set up this way many moons ago, while still
under the AT&T umbrella upon my request. It didn't seem to be a big
deal then for it to be set up like this, I'm a little surprised that
    it is now.

However, reading ahead on another post, it appears (once again) that
the tech department has no problems while the white shirts of the
    group are clueless.

My comment on my info was tongue and cheek only and not meant any
other way. Just passing along what i know to be facts on my side and
    how my set up is.

    Much depends on the services:

    * Cingular may or may not be transmitting the name for a given number.

    * Not all landline services support number and name -- some support only
    number.

    * Some landline services charge extra for the number and name, rather than
    just number.

    * You may be seeing a name on some incoming calls with number but without name
because the name is programmed into your Caller ID device for that number.

To echo what John said, In Laurel, Maryland I would get the name and number
of the person calling (cell or land line). This was on Verizon. Here in
L-ville KY, which has Bellsouth, I also get name and number.

90 miles south og l-ville, they have Alltel, and even when a local person
calls on a cellphone, it always says Celluar Phone (or somehting like that)
while all other land line calls, show name and number.

Funny enough, one my cellphone, I'm listed as Dale M. White, while on the
girlfriend's phone I'm just listed as Dale White. So there is already a
    difference in the 2.

I have three phones on a family plan, and my experience is
the same as articulated. They were willing to change two of
the phones so they appear on caller ID as "WIRELESS CALLER,"
but they would not use the person's actual name -- either my
name of "WIRELESS CALLER," no other options.

Can you even read? This is a Cingular group. He's asking about
Cingular service. You are the one who is incorrect (and not able to
read very well, it seems). Why don't you go away already?

Yes, it's two seperate features with SBC Dallas--Caller ID Number and
Caller ID Name (although it's bundled together in several packages) and
I have both. I get name and number for most everyone.

I just went back and looked at my current caller id list and plugged
some of them into fonefinder.net. No conclusions. Most, but not all,
local incoming "Southwestern Bell Wireless" calls are showing "Wireless
Call" but a *few* show the name. A couple of Nextel callers showed
"Wireless Caller"; two Verizon Wireless calls show as "Unknown Name",
and every "AT&T Wireless" caller had both name and number. Couldn't
    find a Sprint caller.

    > * You may be seeing a name on some incoming calls with number but without name

No, my landline phones don't do that--even if they find the number and
use a custom ring they still show the original name. But the cell
    phones all do that.
