I guess this is an odd question. This is my first cell phone even though
I'm in my mid 50's. Talking to my mother tonight all of a sudden she fades
out and two other people fade in holding a conversation. This goes on for
about 30 seconds or so and then they fade out and she fades back in.
About 5 minutes later the same thing happens with the two same people. I
finally gave up and resorted to using my house phone to call her. This
reminds me of the old days of 'crossed lines' where you could hear a
conversation but they couldn't hear you. I'd have thought that with the
way cell phones are now days this would have been eliminated. Anyone know
    what caused this? Weather possibly?

I don't see it happening, except on maybe some very old analog phones.
Can you give us details on what kind of cell phone you have and whose
    your provider?

That can only happen if your carrier really screws up.

The phone is a Nokia 6061 and my provider is Cingular, I'm located here in
    central Texas.

This happened to me more than once. I have Cingular and a Razr V3 and
my wife has a Cingular ROKR E1. Last time I remember It was my Razr
while I was in MO. We live in Norhtern VA/DC and my wifes ROKR has
done this in our local area too. I just hung up and redialed, next
    connection was fine.

Well, it's unlikely to be caused by the air interface, as long as the
phone is GSM. However, it's possible there was a problem at the
switching center serving both you call and the call that that got
    crossed with yours.

I would definitely call Cingular and complain if it keeps happening.
