A dropped call issue has just started happening. I'm posting this as an
open question for input what to look for before I call CS as this is
becoming a significant problem. Some days at least half my calls get
dropped.
To describe the problem - I'll be on a call for a few minutes and
suddenly start hearing my echo. I can hear what I just said after about
a one second delay and at the same audio level as the other person's
audio level would be. I cannot hear the called party anymore, but they
can still hear me (they tell me this after I call them back). This
happens on calls I place and calls I receive.
At first I simply dismissed it as a rare glitch and called the person
back. However I can call back three times and the same thing happens
within a few minutes period, other times the subsequent call has no problem.
At all times, I am never more than a mile from the nearest tower. This
rules out a coverage issue.
It happens in areas where I never had the problem in the past. Again
this rules out a coverage issue.
It can happen at any time during the day or night. This rules out a cell
loading issue.
It never happened in the past six months, it just started in the past
two weeks. This suggests something was changed on the network side or
possible a handset problem has developed.
The pattern appears to be: Some days it happens frequently. Some days I
have no problems.
Again, dropping half my calls on some days is a significant problem that
I need to address.

Just curious, my brother in law has a cable phone, when I use my land line
phone (regular 5e switch ma bell) to call him I sometimes get the exact
condition that you describe. Are your call to a cable phone provider??

Have you ever tried power cycling the phone after you're dropped?
Might be worth a try, like rebooting a PC.

No, its to/from different land lines and other cellphones (some
Cingular, some, Verizon, etc.)

Usually reboot the phone couple times a week anyway when trying to USB
tether it. But been tethering it for months and never had a dropped call
issue like this.

Re: New unusual dropped calls isse
I have the same ongoing problem with two V551, I'm thinking of changing
phones soon with the Cingular/HTC 8125. I have read many stories about the
V551-7. the "users complain" while the reps boast about how good they are!
Who do you believe!!!!!!!

Re: New unusual dropped calls isse
Here's a tweaker...
In one location in San Francisco when calling ONLY my home phone, I get the
same trouble.
If I got to another part of SF, or another part of the Bay Area, no problem
calling home.
Went to Cingular store across street from my office, told them - they didn't
believe me. I called home, let them hear it themselves, wife thought I was
crazy having someone else call...
Changed phone number - no joy.
Changed SIM card - no joy.
Go figure???
Oh, and they can call me fine, anywhere, even in SF. It is only ME calling
HOME.
ARGH!
