Cingular has been down since at least 4:30 Central time. Talked to a few
other people here and they said closer to 4:15. Its 5:05 right now and
just came back from a local Cingular franchise, they said it was a
network issue affecting Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

No text messaging and calls not even going to voice mail, just get a
busy when you call from a land line.

I went down at 2:15pm. The rep I talked to at 2:20pm was unaware of an
outage when I called, but was alerted while I was talking to him.

Cingular lies and claims text messaging is working.

WAS DOWN FROM 1:30 PM TO AFTER 6 PM IN HOUSTON, AND THEN NOTHING BUT
    DROPPED CALLS TILL 7 PM.

Calls to 611 and the CSR weren't told what caused it. "Likely a network
issue too complicated for you to understand" they'd insult you with.

Not true, and you know it.

How do you know it to be a "lie?"

In May, Verizon Wireless customers in Southern New Jersey lost
service for four hours, according to a media report.

Such extended outages of wireless service appear to be fairly rare.
More often, according to recent media reports, an event such as a
construction crew cutting the wrong line or inclement weather could
trigger an outage of both landline and wireless phone service for
    several hours.

    NAVAS dreamland again.

I called 611 at 7 Pm and thats Exactly what the CSR told me.

Of course I wouldn't expect the Shill Navas to apologize.

It was a sporadic coverage issue. All I know for a fact is:

    * It was working in Decatur, TX at 3 PM, but was down from at least 4:37
    PM to 7r PM.

    * Other people up here said it went down before 4:30.

    * Text messaging did not work, but data cards and tethered phones worked.

    * Waco was able to send and receive calls at 5:20 and never had a
problem all day. Abilene was down as well as well as west Texas.

    * Most, but not all of Oklahoma was down when I started coordination
calls from a Sprint phone to other oil field guys that had Sprint and
Verizon phones and asked about Cingular phones in the areas.

    ----------------------------------

As for the Navasesque observation of "service guarantee", that's a moot
point. Many, many, many users (I don't want to say "perhaps millions"
as this would give Navas an opportunity to ask for a citation) lost
phone service and they were not happy (sorry, I don't have a citation of
their actual expressed feelings of disappointment).

One customer of mine who is a business owner with twenty or so Cingular
phones told me, "If this isn't fixed by morning, we're changing
services". While I am certainly not a mental health expert (I'm adding
that disclaimer to avoid a Navas objection), I could tell he was
    emotionally *PISSED OFF*

As someone else observed, this won't affect Cingular's "least dropped
calls" campaign as no calls could be placed in the fist place. (snicker)

Since this was a core issue, compared to a local tower going down, heads
are going to roll when asked why redundancy wasn't in place. Disclaimer,
that is only my personal observation, Navas may have other definitions
    of network responsibility.

For all the Chicken Littles - the Outage was not the entire area. It was
AUSTIN LUBBOCK CARROLTON FARMERS BRANCH HOUSTON for one voice only outage
and there was a separate outage in OKLAHOMA and ARKANSAS. The OK and AR
affected voice and data. The outage did not affect everyone. Some people
could call - some could text and some could do nothing.

Who did Cingular pay off that no media in Houston mentioned it ?

Hard to believe, since text messaging use the same infrastructure as
    data services.
