I'm waiting for that killer app. I've been switching back and forth between
a Moto MPX 220 and a Treo 650 for some time now because I like the
Smartphone OS and PDA functionality. I'm looking forward to upgrading the
hardware soon, but nothing out there is very inspiring...just a lot of the
same old. My ideal phone would be a flip style smartphone with some limited
PDA functions AND integrated GPS! I know there are separate GPS receivers I
could carry around to communicate with the Treo, but that's not an
acceptable option. Does anyone have any hints of something coming down the
pipe that would fit the description?

    Nokia N95?

Of course, due to F.C.C. stuff, it will not be for sale in the U.S.

You are like me. You want something that absolutely nobody makes. heh

I've tried the GPS in my Nextel flip phone. It sucks. I don't know if it's
because Motorola makes crummy phones (which they do) or because a flip phone
isn't the ideal place for a GPS receiver. It's not something I ever plan to
    use.

I've had great luck with my Nokia bluetooth GPS. It works on my cell phone,
PDA, and laptop, it picks up signals even in my living room, and has an
external antenna connector that works with most antennas. It looks pretty,
too, though that isn't a big deal to me.

I believe the battery and/or charger is compatible with some Nokia phones,
but lack the motivation to find out, since it works so well as is.

If you need something to hold you over until your dream phone comes around,
I suggest one of these. If you shop around, you can find them for about
    $100.

HP iPAQ 6515 has an integrated GPS. It's a on closeout at Cingular. I paid
$125 for a refurbished one with a "premier company" discount. I know a new
model is supposed to be coming and HP will give you $200 towards a new iPAQ
should I wish to upgrade to it.

    Yes.

Comes with a car adapter, too.

Well, I've got a GlobalSat bluetooth GPS module which sits in my console
constantly hooked to a 12v cigarette lighter (charging). When I want to use
it, I just turn it on. I stays there in my console in the middle of my Altima
without needing to be removed. (It runs on the SiRFstarIII chip set - very
    sensitive and 20 channels).

On my phone (a Nokia 6682) sits WayFinder. Anywhere I have GPRS, WayFinder
can contact its server and route me to a destination. If I have no eyes free,
that's fine because WayFinder will talk me in (which is loud enough due to
    the 6682's speakerphone).

As a backup, I have Mapopolos on my Palm LifeDrive, though connecting and
maintaining a connection between the LD and GPS module is problematic -
certainly more so than with my previous Palm - a T5.

There will probably be unlocked editions of this phone on ebay soon.
