I have a Sony Ericsson S710a phone with Cingular and the unlimited
Media NET plan.
I'd like to be able to take a picture and email it to my Flickr
account. I've successfully done this using the Send via MMS feature
when viewing a picture. This is fine, but it costs me $0.10 a picture
and I'm already paying for unlimited data; I figure I should be able to
send my photos through plain old email.
I've configured my email settings to use my gmail account's POP3 for
incoming and I've tried both gmail's and Cingulars outgoing servers
(both cwmx.com and photo.mycingular.net) but whenever I try to send an
email, I get "Finding Server" then "Server Found." and then it just
hangs there.
Has Cingular crippled their SMTP outgoing to prevent sending of photos
via email attachment or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
Alex

Email with attached photo works fine here with a Cingular branded
Motorola V551 over MEdia Net using outgoing server cwmx.com port 25, so
you're probably doing something wrong. See the FAQ below for lots of
helpful info.
(To use the Gmail SMTP server, you have to use an SSL connection, which
uses a different port, and requires SSL support in the phone.)
