On Saturday (Nov 18) my features on my phone had been changed without my
knowledge. Three of four phones on my family plan had an old Media Works
bundle that included 1500 SMS 200 MMS & unlimited Media Net, all for $19.99.
I have never went more than about 20 MB on my unlimited on one line and far
less on all others. On Saturday the Media Works was cancelled and put back
under the new Media Works plan. Now I am limited to 1000 messages (SMS or
MMS) and 5 MB of media net. After several hours on the phone, Cingular has
told me that the old plan has been deleted from their system and all
customers are experiencing this. The CSRs that I had dealt with were all
nice and helpful. In fact they were so helpful I ended up obtaining two $50
credits to my account, a Motorola SLVR L7 (with car charger) for $65 (no
upgrade or extended contract), and Media Max 1000 (includes 1000 messages &
unlimited media net <cost$29.99>) and a $30 reoccurring monthly credit to
offset the price difference. All in all, this is not too bad but I have lost
700 messages. I always have had great support, although not very
knowledgeable, from customer service and I am happy with their service.
So my question is, has anybody else having this bundle experienced a change
    without their knowledge?

That's what I have. It was called MEdia Works Unlimited, although that
term was later reused for a different package, so you really need to
specify the feature code(s). Unfortunately, the Cingular website now
just shows "MEdia Works" under Rate Plan & Features, not the actual
feature code(s). So instead, go to Current Usage page. For the old
MEdia Works Unlimited, it will say:

    Data Usage

A summary of your data usage.

    USAGE TYPE INCLUDED ...

    Text/IM Messaging 1500 ...
    SMS MEDIA BASIC ALL1 1500MSGS $0.03ADDL/$0.2 INTL

That's happened twice to me in the past. Both times I got the old
package back, but only by escalating to the "Office of the President".

As evidenced by the above, I'm still currently on the old MEdia Works
    Unlimited.

I thought that I had read in previous posting that you had this same
feature. I am quite aware of how it takes persistence and patience to
retrieve this old feature. and I also know the coding is deferent. I was
hoping you would post a reply relating to still having this feature and if
you did not then I was hoping to warn you of the change. I guess it's time
to make another phone call to see if I can obtain this package back. I, like
Cingular, keep computer based notes on our conversations so that I too can
refer to previous dates and situations while on the phone. This same
unexpected drop happened to me on January 30th and it took getting to the
"Customer Resolutions Department" (if one really exists) to get the feature
back. Thanks for you input John.

You may have to contact Cingular's administrative offices, rather than
    go through Cingular customer service.

If you e-mail me, I can give you a direct contact for the office of the
president (only for Cingular's Western Region). When Cingular wasn't
selling GAIT phones in California, I got an e-mail from Cingular telling
me to refer anyone that wanted a GAIT phone to this person. If she's
still there, and Cingular is still willing to let you have the old
package, this may be the best way to get it.

Seems they were lying to you. I still have my old MediaNet package.
    Nothing was deleted or changed.

I'm glad you brought it up though. Now I'm going to check my account
    constantly.

Re: Media Works Bundle Deleted - Whoops

Seems I'm lying. The name's been changed to Media Max 200, or something
    like that.

    My bad.

Twice my old MEdia Works Unlimited package has been accidentally deleted
from my account, and I had to jump through some hoops to get it added
back and the huge pay-as-you-go charges reversed. I think that's mostly
been caused by integration of all the billing systems from mergers, and
since that's now largely complete, may not be as big an issue in the
future, but checking is still definitely a good idea.

    Re: Media Works Bundle Deleted

Update on trying to regain my original Media Works package:

After several phone calls and several attempts by CS (and other departments)
it seems that the package will not be obtainable. For all you that currently
have this old package watch out, the people I have spoken with assure me
that this deletion of obsolete packages is moving across the country and
soon everyone will have obtained the same nasty results that I have
encountered. Be very careful because they do this change without notifying
the customer. For me that was in the middle of a billing cycle and would
have resulted in enormous overage charges if I did not catch it right away.

I have also found out that Cingular is looking into an unlimited Text plan
(and other packages) but will not unveil them until early February. They
said they would do it after the Christmas sales. I guess they are trying to
sucker people into the more expensive plans before unveiling more realistic
plans. I don't think most customers regularly check for better plans once
they have signed into a plan.
