You say that like it's a bad thing. The alternative is putting up
    multiple towers.

What's amusing is to be at a planning commission meeting, where most of
the members are real estate people or developers (as is the case in most
towns), and Sprint or T-Mobile come in to try to get a tower approved.
Invariably, the opponents of the tower will bring up the fact that
Cingular and Verizon are able to provide coverage without towers in
these sensitive locations, and the carriers then have to hem and haw
about how they need more towers due to their operating frequency, how
it's unfair to penalize them for being newer operators that got the less
    efficient spectrum, etc.

    Bad thing.... no.

Aesthetically, 1 with many vs. 2-3+ towers on a hill.
    The 1 with many wins.

In the beginning, it was every carrier for themselves. We built
many sites within a stone's throw of a McCaw site. Then, the PCS
guys came along and built also. "Antenna farm" is the term.

NIMBY has made carriers play nice - (nicer anyway)

"I just brought two more of my phones over to Sprint".....

"I even brought two from Nextel"

I assume you mean phone NUMBERS, right?

Sprint doesn't activate non-Sprint phones on their network, period.
And... Nextel is iDEN, Sprint is CDMA (a Nextel phone won't work on CDMA)

I don't know about anything else and I am a Consumer Reports member, but with
T-Mobile's customer service--I don't care about dropped calls or even the
difference in plan costs (and I live on a limited fixed income)--after using
Sprint with their customer NO service--I am pretty much a T-Mobile lifer. I
have never had them let me down!!!!!!!

Sprint can throw money at anything they want and everything in your article
on them. I can only guess you work for them, because everything you have
stated does not change their customer NO SERVICE. Without that--a company
stinks. Theirs is the WORST. If they get nothing else from Nextel, they
should adopt Nextel's customer service program. Nextel actually has a pretty
good one. T-Mobile is the only one which tops it.

If they shut down the Nextel side--Keep Nextel Customer Service and Shut Down
Sprint's what is supposed to be customer service. Maybe it is age <yawn>,
but Customer Service is huge to me. I was raised when such a thing really

My experience with Verizon's customer service has been top notch! I think it
equals my experience with T-Mobile's customer service from a few years ago
when we used them for my Wife's phone.

Having been with both the companies you discuss--it is T-Mobile hands down.
Sprint's customer service is so bad--I would give up cell phone service
before returning to them ever. T-Mobile has the kind of customer service
"senior" considered a major part of business, but has slowly disappeared. If
customer service is important to you then T-Mobile is number one and they
have always found a way to fix my problem, a way around it, or close enough
that I have never once considered changing or hung up angry or frustrated.
They are an excellent company in all areas, but five star in customer service.

Re: Consumer Reports Ratings are Out----Verizon top carrier in 14 out of 20 cities, T-Mobile top carrier in 3 cities

Mr. Kelly--wish I could have gotten hold of you when I was having all my
problems. I actually had my first heart attack about forty feet outside a
Sprint store because of service (Diagnosis: Stress induced cardiac episode)
and I worked Over, Short, and Damaged for one of the top three trucklines for
years which is the ultimate test of customer service stressville (losing the
special made torches for the Pan American Olympics as an example of ten days
of hell) so it is not because of my delicate nature. It really was abusive
treatment in a Sprint store And of the people who came to my aid when I
collapsed outside the Sprint store--not one was from the Sprint store. This
I found out during my recovery and from the ambulance crew who checked in on
me later because "never had anyone with a sense of humor when in such pain
and so easy to work with" which makes me think it was not me having an
impossible to please attitude. Even your super, duper, special department in
Texas for "serious problem customers" is a joke with its case# and same
"specialist" until completed--oop's--mine disappeared when you merged with
Nextel and the new one wondered if I were interested in getting help or just
being nosy about my former lousy "specialist", which I did not think boded
well for our chances from first impressions. Talk is talk and Actions are
actions. Case# 1276728 -- Finally dropped Sprint, breaking contract which
Sprint had already broken dozens of times and offered to go to arbitration--
but instead, you just keep trying to rattle with threats.
