I was considering buying an unbranded, unlocked GSM KRZR on eBay to use on
my existing Cingular account. Any downsides to such a purchase...kinda tired
of waiting for Cingular to offer this phone.

    See More: Unbranded KRZR ?

Unbranded? Doesn't it even say "Motorola"? Or is this the equivalent of a
    "Rolix" watch?

I think I'd want to see this beast in operation bofore I laid out any cash.

Unbranded, as in not labeled as a Cingular or T Mobile or locked to any
    service provider.

Well, unless you are technically sharp, I wouldn't do this. Some
features will more than likely not work, and unless you want to be flash
upgrading the firmware for your phone yourself (Cingular won't do this
for you) to get some features to work, it's not worth it. Also, Cingular
will not insure this phone, so if you break it or a flash goes terribly
    wrong, its your $300 brick.

www.motox.info ..... good place to start if you are thinking about going
unbranded. I had a v3i for almost 5 months before Cingular released it
and I did a *lot* of reading at that site. I had most things working,
but when it was finally released, I flashed to that firmware and have 0
    problems now.

That would be "unlocked", not "unbranded".
