I wish somebody would come up with a more appropriate term than "racism",
since genetically and scientifically speaking, there is no such thing as
race, there is, by definition, no such thing as racism. I truly believe that
most objections that people have with those from a different ethnic
background has to do with objections to their culture, not to their skin
color, although often it's difficult to separate the two. An example would be
that the stupid, self destructive culture that American Negroes have
"constructed" for themselves (admittedly, this is largely the white man's
fault) is pretty much 100% identified with African-Americans. Few people of
other ethnicities have embraced it (mostly because its an obvious dead-end).
So do those who hate blacks hate them because they're black, or because they
have adopted characteristics of a bankrupt and sociopathic culture which
values crime and low social and academic achievement? As someone who numbers
among his close personal friends, several black men and women, I can tell you
that their skin color means nothing to me. These are intelligent, educated,
and erudite people who want no part of that artificial African-American
culture. They (and I) do look down on African Americans who have embraced
that culture of non-success and non-achievement, though. Does that make me a
"racist" does it make them racists? It does make me a "Culturist" in that I
tend to judge people on their cultural values, not their skin color or other
physical ethnic manifestations.

I think its true with Muslims too. Many call middle-eastern peoples
"ragheads" not because they are Arab or Persian, but because they represent a
dangerous religion who is at war with the western world. People see Muslims
in general as the enemy because there is no way for an individual to know
which Muslims are hostile and which are not. This tendency to lump them all
together because we cannot tell the good ones apart from the bad ones is
fairly normal behavior under these circumstances. The more alien the enemy's
culture, the more likely people are to react that way. That's one reason why
we interned Japanese-Americans during WWII and not German-Americans (although
many German nationals and recent immigrants living in the USA when the war
started were deported).

Enough ranting for one day.

The military was put into an impossible situation. Under-staffed,
under-equipped, in a war that should never have happened. They are
probably doing the best that could be expected under the circumstances.

drafting the more highly educated middle and upper class teenagers,
rather than depending on volunteers, you'd suddenly see a lot more

Sorry, race is a political/social construct devised to classify folk by skin
color and other superficial physical characteristics at a time when people
actually believed that humans of different colors were intrinsically
different. Genetics has shown that there are no "race" genes and the same
genes that make his skin yellow and mine white, makes the other guy's skin
black. Same with hair, nose size, etc, etc, etc. This makes all people born,
essentially the same. The differences that arise as they mature are
determined by their culture.

True, but my point is that its how Jews were perceived, how they lived that
was different from other Europeans of the time that made them targets not any
racial or ethnic characteristics.

Sure it is. Whites brought Negroes to this country to be slaves. They were
brought here and grouped together as slave workers with no regard for tribal
affiliations. Tribal affiliations gave these people their culture and it was
taken away from them. Even Italian, Irish, and Jewish immigrants to this
country lived together (at first) in ethnic neighborhoods in our large
cities. The Negroe lost his culture in just a few generations. After the
civil war, they were released with no cultural values (except those they
picked-up from their white masters) and no education. They were treated so
badly everywhere they went, that they eventually developed an artificial
culture based upon rejecting all white values. A dumb thing to do in light of
having to live in a white world.

Why drag innocent kids into it? What is needed is to change the law that any
POTUS or Senator/Rep who starts a war or votes for it, is put ashore in the
first wave. That is why we have a VPOTUS, so the prez isn't irreplacable.
'Lead from the front', etc. Nobody under 25 or so should be allowed to
volunteer for combat duty- they don't have the life experience to give
informed consent.

BTW, IMHO SCOTUS was wrong in the 1919 or so Arver decision, when they
decided the draft wasn't a violation of 13th amendment. The hand-waving they
did was way too much like soverign infallibility. Merely being born in a
country, and residing there, implies no consent that the state has the right
to force people into a situation that could lead to their injury or death.

I'm with you. I had the original smartphone (QCP-6250) back in '02,
and I loved it! Got myself a Treo 650, and had it until February, when
it finally crapped out. The insurance company sent me a 700, and I
can't live without it! I just hope DHL isn't sending yours, 'cause it
took them 2 weeks to get it to me. Worth the wait, though!

I've had a Treo for 2 years and I'm not salivating. It's not bad, but
still not easy to use.
