It is time for me to upgrade my Nokia 6340i phone on the cingular (AT&T)
network, or go with Verizon. I have a very good inexpensive plan with AT&T
(250/3500) for only $25.00 a month after my AT&T multiple use discount. I
live in a weak area for cell phone reception. Cingular/ATT still says the
most sensitive phones on their network are Nokia, and that they only have
three Nokia phones to offer me. They are 2610, 6102, and N75. I do not need
a lot of bells and whistles, and would probably not be interested in the
N75. I am leaning towards the 6102i. I would appreciate any comments on
these phones you have to offer. I have had two different people at my house
on the Verizon network, and they had trouble making a call. I let them use
my Nokia 6340i on the cingular network, and they had no problem. This is why
I tend to shy away from Verizon, even though they have a good rating in
Consumer Reports. Being in a weak area, need a sensitive phone because I
make all my long distance calls via the cell phone to save money. Thanks
    for your help. Charles Ranheim

    Charlie...
What works in YOUR area is the one for you. Overall Verizon has the best
service, but if its weak at your place
    so be it...
AT&T will tell you ANYTHING, YES ANYTHING to get you to re-up your plan. The
    CSR you are talking to
doesnt know **** about a phones RF performance. In fact i suspect they have
been told to dump the Nokia's due
to slow sales. Look on PhoneScoop or HowardForums for REAL advice...you wont
    get it from AT&T

Keep the 6340i as long as possible.

There are still a lot of AMPS areas in the U.S.. I was just on vacation
in Oregon, up at Crater Lake. Most of the park has no GSM, there is some
CDMA, but AMPS covers most of the park.

There will always be dead spots with any carrier. I know some people in
Hayward CA, who had great Verizon coverage until Verizon reoriented
their tower antennas, then their coverage became very poor inside the house.

In general, Verizon has the best coverage in the U.S., look not only at
Consumer Reports, but at J.D. Power, Yankee Group, and local consumer
    publications.

Okay, so I have to ask here...why on earth did Apple choose AT&T for the
    iPhone?

If you do change phones, my experience has proven any Motorola to have the
best reception. Slightly to much better than Nokia, Samsungand most of the
LG phones. Some of the newer LG's can hold their own against Motorla.

My experience is quite the opposite, however. Comparing manufacturers
like this seems frought with peril.

I've had 2 GSM Motorola's that couldn't hold a candle to 2 of my GSM
Nokias, and 1 Motorola that edges the Nokias out. Motorola makes some
crap, and some good stuff in my experience.

While, I've never had a Nokia I would say was "bad" (the 3 I've had--1
tdma, 1 gait, 1 gsm--have all been solid and consistent) I have to
admit my Krazr K1 does them all one better invox quality and rf
stability. The other 2 Motorola phones I've used, however were utter
****. Razr v3 was terrible, and a 7somethin-something were poor in
audio quality and the most fond of dropping calls of any phones I've
had. Krazr K1 on the other hand is the best phone I've ever had.

I've also worked for circle M and know from the inside that some
designs and manufacturing lines manage to produce crap, others gold.

    Todd,

If you were to pick one of the current phones offered by AT&T now, which
one would you pick, if you were in a weak signal area? I never heard of the
Krazr K1. I appreciate all the responses I have received, but am still
having a difficult time picking one that is best for a weak signal area with
    AT&T. Charles Ranheim

That's the 2nd report I've heard of that. I wonder if the Razr 2
replaced it in the product line or if Cingular retailers just decided
it wasn't profitable enough when another place was selling them for
    much less.

So I lJust called the Wal Mart where I got mine a month ago. They
still have the Krazr K1 there for $77.88 for 2yr extension. $50 more
for 1yr. When cingular.com had these they wanted something nutty like
    $199 + 2yr contract.

    Todd,
I did a search on www.phonescoop.com, entering the carrier, and what phone
features I would like. One of the phones that came up was a Nokia 6085 that
appears to be an improvement over the 6102i. I called cingular (AT&T) about
this, and was told they expect to get the 6085s in mid July. This sounds
like a good possibility. There will be other Nokia's coming out this summer
    as well. Charles Ranheim

    Enjoy!

The only caveat I'd toss in there is that you're pinning hopes
on a feature list rather than a large # of humans actual real world
    experience/review with a production phone.

As a counterpoint, the original Razr looked like a wonderful in the
marketing brochure and feature list, but was a performance turd for
many with short battery life, slow response time, spotty production
consistency, many reported lousy rf and audio, etc.

Maybe they didn't hear the "K", and there is no "a" in the K1.
The Motorola KRZR K1 is still available, and priced high. I don't think it is
    being discontinued.

The non-v3xx Razr is disappearing. If you "shop" for it on the Cingular
site, it advises you to check local stores for availability.

On the other hand, I am happier with my Nokia 6126 than I was with the
Motorola V3xx, and they are both "free" right now at cingular.com. At
WalMart, the 6126 says "You make $50", better than free.
