Just about all AT&T stores sold out. Half of Apple stores sold out,
despite starting with huge supplies (1000 per store in most cases).

    http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/

Only glitch was people too used to Apple stuff not requiring reading
the manual, so the folks that

    1. Were porting their number from another carrier.
    (and that is NEVER instantaneous)

    2. Trying to get an iPhone on a Business account
    ( which AT&T said was a no-no)

Those folks naturally clogged up the system and likely will be waiting
through Monday as Verizon "accidently" has problems porting out
    cell numbers.

    ==

Pundits said Apple would have to sell 100,000 phones this weekend to
keep from being a flop, and 200,000 to be a success. Now it looks like
sales of 300,000 will be passed before Sunday is over. The bar has
    been raised ! !

I don't own Apple stock, but wished I did. It will surely jump on
    opening Monday.

I wonder of the red dots are a good proxy for the geek population by
city. For example, here in Tejas, both Austin stores are red. All
Houston stores are green. In Washington State, most of the Seattle
suburbs near Redmond (home to Microsoft) are sold out.

Maybe not a perfect indication, since allocation may not have been
uniformly proportional to population served. But there does seem to be
    some correlation.

Now it will be interesting to see how many are returned in the next 30
days. And of course, any rise in Cingular churn numbers will more than
likely be a result of the iPhone not being the real deal.

I have a feeling that the glitches were blown way out of proportion but I
doubt we'll get to see any useful statistics. Apple could use these reports
to their advantage: "When you have problems with an Apple product, the event
is noteworthy enough to make the evening news." Still, these incidents, rare
as they may be, can be costly for a brand that claims to give its customers
the right to boast that "Bad things just don't happen to me because I use
    Apple products."

They're showing up in lots of places. Surprisingly, there were no red dots
anywhere the first two nights but now there are several now. California is
all red, except for two locations in San Francisco. I'm not sure if that
means San Franciscans have more brains or less money - or just more
    inventory.

Total lie on apples site. Early in the day it was red in my town also.
A friend wanted to go check one out and I told him as per there website it
shows there out by the red dot.

About a half hour later he called me back and told me they had lots of them
    in stock.

No map - just a pulldown list of states. You click the state you want to
see, and it shows a list of locations in that state with Apple stores, and a
dot - red or green - next to each one. News reports and other posters seem
to indicate that these dots may not be entirely accurate.

The dots are accurate when posted, but soon the next morning either
more iPhones are sold, or new shipments arrive.

Pulldown where? I wonder if my location has certain features configured
differently. There is apple store link way at bottom, but that just lets
you find a store. My nearest store says nothing about ihhone availability

Click on the embedded link in the original post. It takes you to the
"availability" page. Or enter the following in your browser:

The browser page was different when i looked at in past. Where the
avaialbility block is now, there was just grey text saying to call your
    local store.

I took a gander at the site tonight. Green dots are becoming fairly
scarce. Unless reinforcements show up soon, this may be what the eBay
    speculators were hoping for.

The eBay iPhone speculators are taking a bath right now.

Only a handful are selling, and those are going for just a few bucks
above and below all the seller costs.
