Larry you have got to stop those bit torrent downloads over the Alltel
Network. Get iTunes and download HD movie rentals instead. Now that
    might get their attention!

I have know idea how those two comments apply.

Who's talking about an AT&T server set up?
Why does it make a difference if its a dynamic or static IP [in the
context that you your particular application could use a well served
by using a virtual static IP]

My point is - you have to pay much extra if you want to run a
server [or any other applicable use] behind an AT&T wireless device,
may it be a tethered handset or air card.

Set up a simple HTTP server on one of your computers and connect
it to the internet via your wireless device, then find your IP
addy (www.whatismyip.com); then use another computer to view your
webserver on the first computer. You can't do it.

You wanted to know what the high cost was, now you have the answer.

On the other hand, if you're an ISP..bandwidth is a terrible
    thing to abuse.

We block all BitTorrent. If you have a legitimate need for it,
we'll unblock on a per case review.

We figure 5 Gig per month is plenty for a user.

AT&T Wireless has detail by connection.

    >Bandwidth....It's a terrible thing to let go to waste...

It is, humor notwithstanding, because a few heavy abusers are spoiling
it for the rest of us, just like other "unlimited" services before it.
    Tragedy of the Commons.

The statement about $500 was wrong. What are you claiming now?

    Define "abuse".

Blocking ANYTHING is an abhorrant, anti-internet practice, as Comcrap is
    about to find out.

What you "figure" and what you "ADVERTISE" must be the same. If what is
ADVERTISED says the word "Unlimited", it means without what you "figure"
    and without what you're blocking.

The NY State Attorney General has set the standard for "Unlimited". One
hopes the courts continue to agree.

    http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...pay-1-million-
    over-deceptive-unlimited-evdo-plans.html

One would hope the rest of the SELLphone bastards would take the hint, but,
obviously, this isn't the case. One can only hope Mr Cuomo wipes more than
just Verizon's ass with a lawsuit. It has cost the Verizon liars
    plenty...so far.

Company bull****. The greedy bastards still think they can sell it by the
byte because they ARE selling it by the byte at 15c/156 byte SMS (Verizon).

    Do the math....
    1GB divided by 156 bytes = 6410256 SMS messages per gigabyte times 15c =
    $US961,538.46 per Gigabyte!

It's the highest priced data service ON THE PLANET!

How much does a gigabyte cost them? The profit margin is usury.

I'd love to see what ATT's SELLphone system LOADING, as a percent of total
bandwidth available, looks like over the course of a week. After all, THEY
    OWN THE BANDWIDTH, already!

They can do whatever they want. It's their service, and they set the
terms. If you don't like the terms, don't use it.

Tough when you don't actually own one, isn't it.

I (unlike you) actually own a few Macs (20 years and no PCs), and aside
from the firewall of my 5 year old Linksys router, have nothing but the
    Mac default protection in place.

There are NO truly malicious viruses that infect Mac OSX.

Maybe you need to start writing some.

Abuse is what *I* define it as. Its *MY* ISP, like it or don't sign
    up for it.

    > Blocking ANYTHING is an abhorrant, anti-internet practice, as Comcrap is
    > about to find out.

    a) Having just ONE user running several BitTorrent session can bring an
unmanaged network to its knees, now THAT is abhorrent. Blocking anything
for reasonable network management is reasonable.

    b) Comcast is about to find out ONLY that youcan't contractually sell
unlimted and then begin limiting it. They're only mistake was say it was
    to be unlimited.

Promoting unlimited internet use is a failed model. Net neutrality has
nothing to do with it. The FCC policy statement is nothing more than
    CNN fodder.

I don't advertise unlimited, I advertise limited. So its a moot point.

Hopefully carriers will be more clear on the limits and STOP selling

Frankly, there's no better way to tell your computer platform is safe than
when the only references to malware a Google search turns up comes from
    anti-virus software vendors! ;-)
