> How can I create a ringtone from an MP3 song using freeware?

Open the little door and extract the 2GB microSD card from the top of
the Z6m on Alltel.....

Plug it into the microSD to SD adapter and plug the adapter into the SD
to USB adapter. Plug the USB adapter into the PC, which treats it like
an external hard drive.

Open Windows Explorer (not internet explorer) and copy the MP3 files you
want to use to the microSD card.

Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the lower right corner of
Windoze and tell the stupid operating system you wish to remove the USB
drive so it will finally write all the data to the card so you don't
lose it.

Unplug the USB adapter - SD adapter and extract the microSD card.

Plug it back into the top of the phone...rightside up this time so you
don't break it off....and close the door, which mounts the card to the
phone OS.

Click MEDIA GALLERY then SOUNDS then pick your MP3 file on the external
card from the list of sound files the OS finds. If you don't see your
file, it's not looking at the external card, so click OPTIONS then pick
VIEW STORAGE DEVICES and pick ALL so it looks everywhere.

Once the MP3 files is highlighted, click OPTIONS and the options list
will appear. Move the highlighter down to MANAGE and press the right
arrow key to open the MANAGE menu. Pick MOVE from the menu and select
PHONE from the move list. This will move the MP3 file from the memory
card to the phone's internal memory where the OS will allow you to make
a ringtone of any sound file.

Back at the main screen, once again, pick MEDIA GALLERY - SOUNDS. Now,
pick OPTIONS smartkey, scroll down to VIEW STORAGE DEVICES and pick
PHONE to see only the phone's memory sound files. (reset it to all after
we're done.)

Scroll down the file list which is ONLY the phone's internal memory
until you find your file. Highlight it.

Click OPTIONS, scroll down to APPLY AS and right arrow to get the popup
menu. Highlight and click on RINGTONE then pick WHICH ringtone you want
to use this file for. The phone ONLY looks at INTERNAL memory for these
ringtone files.

You can repeat with more files at any step above but don't go crazy and
use up all the internal memory for stupid long ringtone MP3 files or
there won't be room for MESSAGES, for instance, or PICTURES/movies/etc.

If ANY of the above menus is mysteriously MISSING, take your phone down
to the MAIN OFFICE of your carrier and ***** THEM OUT because MOST
carriers have removed most menu options to PREVENT you from making your
own for free so they can SELL you ringtones!

It's why I call all these phones - SELLPHONES.....(c;

As soon as your menus have been restored, tell them you'll resume paying
your phone bill.....They can restore these menus very easily by
reloading the phone with ALLTEL or original MOTOROLA firmware, erasing
the **** the company bureaucrats tried to scam you with.....
