Does anyone know when the Washington, DC area will be unbarred? I had
previously heard Sep 15, but that didn't happen.

    Thanks

They keep slipping and slipping.. I wouldn't expect anything this week
given the number of cells that need to be put back together. The
towers may be built for 200mph winds, but the batteries inside aren't
built for long outages. Even the highly-advertised Verizon network has
    lots of gaps this week.

Yes, I agree. Even if it really had been planned for this week, those plans
are likely all wet now. I had friends who didn't understand why their AT&T
phones worked on Friday at their house but not Saturday...the backup
    batteries went dead.

I know they put all the TDMA phones on "sale" for free over a week ago.
Also heard today that there was a commercial for a GSM phone.

    Maybe next week.

Washington Post Business Section of Sunday 28 Sept has multiple articles on
Cell phones. One says GSM coming Mid October for Cingular. No Cingular GSM
reviewed in their comparison article. Andy

I was at Washington Dulles Airport this morning and Cingular showed
up on my ATTWS telephone when I did a manual search. I could not
access the network because of ATTWS restrictions so I could not see
how strong the signal was. It also showed up in the Merrifield, VA
    area of Fairfax County.

Just got my Cingular bill all stuffed full of advertisements for GSM
phones and service plans. Hopefully this means it will be turned on
    "soon".

It's up now, but has issues... incoming calls go straight to an error
recording, and GPRS isn't working. I'll give them a few days to get
things straightened out, then complain :-)
