quality?

Re: GSM in Austin
I have switched. Service quality is as good as or better than TDMA. Cool
new GSM phones, too! But the store I went into a week ago was very crowded.

it's been off and on all day friday and saturday. tech support says they
had a fiber optic line cut, and that it knocked out GSM and TDMA. It was
a real pain in the butt.

make that it IS a pain in the butt. My phone still wouldn't work this
morning, and most of today Sunday. It works sometimes, but not most of
the time. I am getting completely pissed. Why would they rely on one
single fiber optic line to serve an entire area. Shouldn't there be some
redundancy built into their network?

Re: GSM in Austin
This is a new network. You should realize that with ANYTHING new, there
are always bumps in the road. I have Cingular GSM in New Orleans and
the system is working beautifully. There was also a problem in my area
on Fri night & Sat. You just have to take the good with the bad. It
beats having TMobile or AT&T's coverage...
Overall, I'm very happy.
