Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had success with SMS between cingular in the
US and Orange in India. Also, what are the additional costs associated
with this? Is there any provider that's better for SMS?

In the US T-Mobile is SMS international king. Just found out that in
the Verizon does offer some international text messaging.
Hasn't some enterprising individual made a chart of all the compatible
carriers gateways and numbering formats?
From Verizon USA...
"Please see below for the list of countries contained in the Vtext.com
"TXT International" link:
Bermuda
Canada
Chile
China
Columbia
Dominican Republic
Ecuador
Hong Kong
Japan
Mexico
Panama
Peru
Puerto Rico
Philippines
Saipan
UK
Venezuela
Verizon Wireless is currently in the process of establishing
partnerships with overseas carriers to support text messaging. This
will eliminate the need to use the text messaging e-mail address
format. You can find the list of international wireless carriers who
are TXT Messaging partners by visiting <http://www.vtext.com> and
selecting the "TXT International" link. When sending to one of our
International text messaging partners, please address your messages
with the carrier code that appears on the website.
TXT International partners are being added continuously. If the
International customer's phone carrier you are trying to text message
is not listed, please note that many wireless carriers provide TXT
Messaging addresses (similar to an e-mail address) to allow you to
reach their customers. This is essentially an e-mail address for the
wireless phone, which is usually the 10 digit mobile number
@domain.com. All Verizon Wireless phones have a text messaging
address, which is their 10-digit mobile [email protected]. Please do
not use a "1" or international code when sending to a text messaging
address. Most of our current phones can support e-mail addresses up to
50 characters long.
To ensure you have the correct address of the international device,
please contact the person you are trying to reach and ask for the full
text messaging address of their mobile phone.
If you have further questions or concerns, please contact us anytime
through e-mail using the address of [email protected]."

Thanks for the info. But when I talked to the T-Mobile people they said
something like 35 cents per message, which is more than I can afford. I
was under the impression that you could send international SMS in the bulk
SMS packages that you get (100 messages for 3 dollars or so). Does anyone
have more info on this?
