I really want to like it, but am starting to consider selling mine. My
service has significantly declined since I got this phone. I'm not sure
if it was the switch to GSM from TDMA (rather, GAIT), or if it's the
poor RF reception of this phone which I am starting to read more and
    more about.

Hey how would you sell it, or where? Also where would you be able to find a
another phone? I am assmuing that you are still within your contract
agreement with Cingular? Let me know..thanks.

I beleive the poor RF reports are false. The phones signal meter
tends to be a bit conservative, and it bounces around more due to the
way it reads and interprets signal reception. However in my
experience, it holds onto calls, maintains clear incoming and outgoing
voice past the point my motorola T721 would and about equal to my old
    Nokia 6200.

I have the phone and I bought it a full retail to replace my sucky T68. I
love the new phone. The camera is pretty much worthless but the signal is
solid and the UI is much snappier.

I have a feeling it may just be ****ty service here in the Austin, TX
area. I had the same problem when they first launched TDMA. The signal
meter does bounce around a lot, and I am often left with nothing but a
red little dot on my signal meter. It seems to work well enough with
this low signal, but I do get this loud static burst noise every 20
seconds or so. I'm just thinking I should have stuck with my GAIT phone.

    Re: T616

to save from retyping, i was chatting about my phone:

    [21:02] <XDEep> its great
[21:02] <XDEep> ive been very picky
    [21:02] <XDEep> and so impressed
[21:02] <XDEep> one caveat- you cant see **** in the sun
[21:02] <XDEep> otherwise, im lubbin it
[21:03] <XDEep> the screensaver and power saving lets the phone last a good
    2-3days
    [21:03] <[NaNdO]> xdeep standby for 3 days?
    [21:03] <XDEep> look at tv
    [21:03] <XDEep> no, active
    [21:04] <XDEep> playing, capturing, talking.. maybe 30min a day
[21:04] <XDEep> a good 3x longer than my old nextels and nokias
[21:07] <XDEep> bluetoof, IR, camera (nice 288x352 or 1/2 size option
(120x160), pretty clear bootie shots), color, sync to pc, got me a desktop
    cradle and 2nd battery,
[21:08] <XDEep> altho, its not as customizable
[21:08] <XDEep> you cant organize the menus and assign buttons i dont think
[21:08] <XDEep> and i dont have internet services enable

[21:09] <XDEep> i'd give it an 8 out of 10 if it only had speakerphone

[21:09] <XDEep> even better, free after 100rebate from cingular

[21:10] <XDEep> [NaNdO]: fyi, its got 2mb of memory for pics, altho you
figure it holds about 30 high res

[21:10] <XDEep> the case is pretty sleek too
[21:10] <XDEep> oh yea no video

[21:11] <XDEep> you gotta get the pc cable to sync to your pc, otherwise you
gotta email em, which requires additional inet service
[21:12] <XDEep> actually havent even tried that yet

[21:12] <XDEep> its got a stopwatch and music composer
[21:12] <XDEep> i can make gay techno rings

    //END

so basically, the worst thing is you cant see anything outside. i carry a
cell, digicam, camcorder, pda, etc. but i still dig the camera function a
lot. pretty decent quality, not much lighting issue, easy to use. HOWEVER i
have the pc sync cable and i dont think i can retrieve them, you gotta email
em and i didnt plan on enabling wireless net. otherwise it syncs contacts in
    outlook, tasks and calendar.

reception is good. had maybe one or two busy networks during prime time, and
maybe one dropped call i forget. cingular is doing a lot better here and im
pretty satisfied i guess (los angeles).

i was considering the nokia 3650, but its too bulky and just cant replace my
pda. plus i think i would have had to pay 100 or more. ive had a nokia 5190
back when cingular was atrocious, 3390, nextel i85s, family has verizon
    motorolas, att samsung, etc.

i got the 616, clear case (had to cut to fit everthing), dual desktop
charger, extra battery, pc link cable, handsfree, car adapter.. im a happy
camper. at least until i figure out an easy way to get these pics
    downloaded.

so overall im happy with my decision (very surprising). as far as reception,
it always varies with area, so i would consult with other customers first. i
was almost swayed by bad reviews, but good thing i actually researched more.
    good luck, hope this helps.

    Re: T616

I agree very much so. I've used Cingular for about 2½ years now and
I'm greatly surprised to find only my SECOND phone that I am satisfied
with. I have used a Motorola V60 since it first came out, changed to
newer phones, everything from Motorola T720 to Nokia 3650, and hated
them all. V60 never failed me, took a risk and bought the T616 and
    have ZERO complaints.

I work for an authorized dealer of Cingular, I sell these phones for a
living and its the only other phone I have the heart to sell to a
    customer besides the Motorola V60.

    GO SONY!
