I wouldn't have switched in the first few weeks for exactly that reason.

Things will get smoothed out over time (hopefully in the next month or two),
but right now I'm seeing a lot of reports of glitches.

Seems most problems are between AT&T and others. I guess because AT&T is
using a different "vendor" for their WNP changes.

AT&T Wireless is having a multitude of problems not limited to the fact
that ATTWS chose to use a different company to assist in administering
WLNP. Take a look at the AT&T Wireless GSM system - then you'll see
what's really going on with them.

That's what I'm hearing. Don't know, since I have no plans to drop either of
the carriers my family uses, but that's what I've heard from others.

Probably it's bundled into Oakland. But in any case, John is once again
trying to promote Cingular by mis-stating the facts about the competition's
coverage. Verizon coverage is excellent throughout Alameda and Contra Costa
County, including the tri-valley area. I spend a lot of time out in
Pleasanton and Dublin, and Verizon is excellent, and I'm not just talking
about on the freeway corridors. out in Moraga, Verizon was the _only_
carrier that worked at all at my relative's house (not great, but it did
work). Up at Tilden Park above Berkeley, Verizon worked fine (AMPS) but
Cingular had no signal. I suspect that Cingular has good coverage in
Pleasanton and Dubin since Pleasanton is where their western regional
headquarters is located and it would be rather embarassing if they had bad
coverage there. If only they could expand this coverage to the Silicon
Valley, 280 corridor, peninsula, and San Francisco!

Last time I checked, it was part of the San Francisco Bay Area, which easily
made the top 100. ;-)

To be precise, "Oakland" is one of the top 100 markets, and includes both
Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Dublin is in Alameda County, and is thus
in a top 100 market.

Verizon's coverage in the Tri-Valley is significantly poorer than Cingular and
ATTWS, which have the best overall coverage in this area, with Cingular having
a small edge over ATTWS. Verizon used to be even worse than Sprint PCS, but
is now in 3rd place overall.

See <http://www.trivalleycvb.com/> -- Moraga and Tilden Park aren't part of
the Tri-Valley, which is generally defined as Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin,
and San Ramon.

If anything that would be a legacy of the old PacBell PCS days, but there
doesn't seem to be any real truth to that story, since coverage isn't
noticeably different from other parts of the Bay Area.

Cingular's coverage is generally good in those areas, albeit varying from spot
to spot, just like other carriers.
