Was wondering if there is any data that tells what frequency is in use in
    which area.
850 Mhz seems to work better inside buildings.

See More: Is Texas a GSM 850 area.

All of Cingular's GSM overlay of TDMA markets are 850(800)mhz. But if
you have a 1900 mhz tower next to your building and an 850 mhz tower 1
mile away, which would give you better coverage in that building? The
1900 mhz service. Everything is relative.

What about the TDMA PCS markets, like Waco, Killeen/Temple,
Longview/Marshall, and Tyler in Texas? Have those not been overlaid
    with GSM PCS (yet)?

Here is how to find out the answer to that. Go to cingular.com. Click on
Phones. Select Texas and the city you want info about. If they are offering
only GAIT and GSM phones then they have converted to GSM.

By the way all the areas you asked about list only GAIT and GSM phones.

I spoke with a Cingular source today at lunch, the answer is yes, those
areas are being overlayed with 1900 GSM. In fact, they may already be
    finished.

In my experience areas that were previously 800 TDMA and overlaid with
1900 GSM are pretty weak, especially with indoor coverage. Areas that
were previously 1900 TDMA and are overlaid with 1900 GSM see improved
    reception.

    YMMV....
