I am thinking of moving from SprintPCS to Cingular. How is Cingular service
in San Francisco? Thanks.

Cingular is worse than Sprint, and Sprint isn't great. AT&T is deteriorating
in San Francisco, including their TDMA service. Forget it. Stick with Sprint
or make the move to Verizon.

I didn't think Cingular had any TDMA in California. Do they partnership
with AT&T's TDMA?

I hate Krispy Kreme doughnuts! Stan's or Lou's Living Doughnut Museum are
the way to go.

Fall of 2002 my Nokia 6340i worked flawlessly from SFO to Wine Country
and every place between.

Robert:
Like any other provider, Cingular's coverage isn't complete (vis a vis
what I've come to expect from Vodafone back home), but it isn't bad. Works
whenever and wherever I need it to. There are a few dropped calls here and
there, but on the whole it isn't bad. BTW- I'm just south of San Francisco in
Daly City. YMMV, but Cingular is FAR better than Sprint in these parts.

You had better considering how much more expensive Verizon is than the
competition.

You've never been to South Dakota, North Dakota, or Montana, have you?
A good portion of their "100 % digital native area" still only has AMPS
coverage, because for whatever reason, thier CDMA signal does not extend
as far as thier AMPS signal.
That and the fact that from Michigan west, if you're withing 20 miles of
the Canadian border, you are likely to roam either on MTS Mobility,
SaskTel Mobility, Bell Mobility, or Telus Mobility (even when you're in
Verizon's 100 % digital coverage area).
I lived in Florida, and for Florida residents, coverage stinks. For
people who travel to Florida and can roam on Sprint PCS or Alltel,
coverage is great (due to Alltel). Cingular and T-Mobile coverage are
generally good, and those two generally beat out the other ones in the
Orlando area.

Re: Cingular in San Francisco?
Unless you live on either a busy street (Geary) or downtown, Cingular
sucks.
No reception in much of the Richmond/Sunset and Noe Valley. Lots of
dead spots all over.

FL residents receive the same PRL as customers in any other state.
The current PRL offers not one or two, but four free networks in FL:
* VZW native PCS network (major cities and highway corridors)
* ALLTEL cellular network (western coast and panhandle)
* Sprint PCS network (major cities and highway corridors)
* AT&TWS cellular network (central and southern FL)
If you combine ALLTEL's and AT&TWS' networks
(http://people.ku.edu/~cinema/wireless/south.html) you will find that
the two cellular networks alone cover almost the entire state. Why on
earth you would proclaim that coverage for FL residents "stinks"
remains a mystery.

Generally pretty good, but (like all carriers), it varies from area to area.
Overall, AT&T probably has the best coverage, followed by Cingular, Verizon,
and Sprint, in that order.
