I have had two BellSouth account for years - one at home and one at my
shop. I have also been a customer of Cingular Wireless (a BellSouth
company) for over two years, now. My bills has always been paid on
time and in full. I would think that makes me a loyal customer.

This month, my cell phone bill went from it's usual $50 to $170. I
guess I made a few more calls than I thought. Obviously, there is a
    slight difference there.

I called customer service to try and arrange a payment plan. I
proposed to pay $80 this month and $80 every month until the balance
was paid. Since my normal bill is $50, paying $30 extra each month
would take care of the remainder of my outstanding bill in three
    months.

After I was assured that payment arrangements could be made, I was
informed that my plan wasn't good enough. If this month's balance was
not paid in full before next month's bill was due, my service would be
suspended. If anyone can tell me how that can be considered a payment
plan, I'd love to hear it.

Whenever AT&T calls me to try and switch my local and long distance
service from BellSouth, I've always told them that I prefer to stick
with BellSouth - even though AT&T was offering lower rates. I did this
out of loyalty. Maybe I need to rethink this. If BellSouth doesn't
care anymore about their customers than this, perhaps I should give
    someone else a try.

For the record - I will posting this to my own website, as well as any
other public forums that I can find.

Why should they treat you any differently than any other customer just
because you didn't keep track of your calls for the month?

You want to know what is hysterical? I just stopped paying my bill at
AT&T and they wouldn't turn off my service for anything - they just
kept billing me and have been for months and I stopped using them!!!

This is how it works - if you want to CANCEL before your contract is
up, they will REFUSE to cancel your service and there is nothing you
can do to get them to turn it off! But if you are late on a payment,
watch out! They threaten to disconnect you!

I hate them all - Verizon and AT&T. Haven't had the opportunity to
    hate Cingular yet.

And you folks thought it was good when they all merged and promised
    better coverage, service and features?

Remember, you have less competition and between the four of them
(Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and Cingular) they make ALL the rules.

I was recently in the Jacksonville and St Augustine areas and had fine

You could have been using a roaming partner that local users are
    prohibited from using.

I don't think I should be treated any differently. My main point was,
"Pay your bill in full by the end of the month, or we disconnect your
service" is pure BS. That is not a payment plan.

BTW - I didn't say that I didn't make the calls or that I refused to
pay for the calls I made, regardless of the price.

So what are you complaining about? Every Cingular customer is
expected to pay their entire bill on or before it's due date. What
makes you think your case is so special?

No, you didn't pay attention to how many minutes you used, and now
find yourself in a financial bind. Who is to blame for that?

It means, if your finances are so tight that you cannot meet the
obligations you have made, then maybe it is time to re-evaluate what
    your true necessities are.

That means if your monthly cash flow is so tight that you cannot absorb a $120
unexpected expense without making $30/month payments for 4 months, then you
obviously can't afford luxuries like cellular phones.
