As of this morning, my T610 is displaying an icon in the top left of the
standby screen that looks like an envelope with a "w" on it.
I've looked through the manual online, apparently it means I've received a
"WAP Push Message".
1) What is a WAP Push Message?
2) How did I receive one?
3) How do I read it/get rid of the icon?
TIA

I'm not sure I fully know, but there was something similar in the tmobile
newsgroup earlier. I believe WAP push messages, among other things, are one
way that the service carrier sends your phone programming data. They might be
changing certain things, such a roaming information, and in so doing send you
a WAP message. I'm not sure that this is the case, but if so, it would
explain the WAP push message.
To read it, choose your 'Messaging' menu, then select WAP Push, then Inbox.
My bet is reading it will get rid of the icon.
That's my best guess. Someone more knowledgable will hopefully correct me
where I've erred.

WAP Push messages are specially formatted SMS messages that display an alert
message, and give the user the option of connecting directly to a particular
URL via the mobile phone's WAP browser.
> 2) How did I receive one?
Someone sent it to you
Probably either a marketing agency or your network provider.
> 3) How do I read it/get rid of the icon?
Go to messaging -> wap push -> inbox then click it and it should connect and
download the content.
To delete it choose clear inbox

I've been asked about this, and I should have been more clear. The newsgroup
is alt.cellular.gsm.carriers.voicestream, a company which TMobile bought for
for a presence in the US. As far as I know, there is no
alt.cellular.gsm.carriers.tmobile.
Hope that helps,
Chad
