I wonder if you could help me.
I am thinking of getting the Sony Ericsson V800 on Vodaphone in the UK.
Does anyone have this phone on this network? What do you think of it? Is
it reliable?
Are the internal & external screens good quality & easy to read?
Have you tried any of the 3G functions of the phone? How is it at
downloading on 3G and what is the video calling like?
Are there any negative/positive points I need to be aware of?
I hope you can help.
Any views and opinions will be gratefully recieved.
Thanks!

Hi Neil,
about 2 Months ago, I decided to buy the new V800 (on Swiss Network, no
external Vodaphone branding, but the rest is the same...)
Generally, I am very happy with the phone, it has all the functionality
that I need.
My Network provider has only a few antennas for 3G Networks and my Calls
keep getting disconnected. I don't know if this is the phone or the
provider, but the phone should handle 3G - 2G handovers automatically...
The internal display is the best I have ever seen on any cellphone!
Even out in the sunlight, I am able to see who is calling clearly.
The external display is less intense, comparable with the T610 display.
Because it's kind of small, the text displayed is not very big either,
but it's ok for a "bonus"
The keyboard is very easy to handle, the keys are quite big for a cellphone.
Video telephony is very weird to me, it's unusual to be able to see the
person I'm calling... Quality is like webcam over the internet (instant
messaging), but ok for a feature I am almost never going to use. The
phone also checks before a video call if the person you're trying to
reach is able to take the video call.
Watching TV on the cellphone is also interesting on first sight, looks
like the smallest Real-video over internet, I even had the situation
that the audio part was ahead of the video part. (but I suspect that
this is the provider's fault...)
All the video features eat up your battery like crazy.
My Battery lasts on light Phone use (about 20minutes calls) about 3-4
days, when using 3G-Features like video calls or TV streaming it lasts
about 1 day...
Overall (as I have written in the beginning) I think that this is a very
good phone, all the features I need (Bluetooth, Voice dialling, PC sync,
big display, easy to handle) are supported and work fine for me.

I keep getting disconnected as well - and it doesn't look like it's
really a problem of 3g - 2g handovers...(Swisscom)
I flashed the Z800 firmware - didn't really help.

I've got one, and I'm very happy with it. The screens are good, and I
like being able to use mp3 tunes as ringtones (once you get hold of the
necessary software to convert them, which is a bit of a pain -
apparently it's a Vodaphone restriction, to try to get us to buy tunes
from them at extortionate mark-ups!)
It plays very well with my Mac, Syncing all info and connecting to the
Web as a modem via GPRS & 3G.
The camera's OK for photos - not the best I've seen, but quite adequate.
But if I was looking for a phone now, I'd try and bide my time and get
the Z800 - it looks the same, but without the ghastly Vodaphone
branding. Take a look at the S-E site.

I have been looking for a way to unbrand my phone with any (-z800)
Firmware to flash over my V800 one.
Where did you get it?
Does everything still work?
Ringtone restrictions gone?
Voda-Menu gone?
TIA

I bought Twister Flasher Gold and SETOOL Standalone. Quite an expensive
toy...
> Where did you get it?
You can buy it at every official reseller - and I bet someone will flash
the phone for you, if you pay something...
> Does everything still work?
As far as I can tell, yes. I killed the phone before with davinciserver
and it looks as if setool has repaired everythinkg.
> Ringtone restrictions gone?
yes.
> Voda-Menu gone?
yes. It just thinks it's a z800 now. The only disadvantage is that the
wap-portal of my provider doesn't know that phone yet and offers me the
standard page instead of the UMTS one...

Re: Sony Ericsson V800 - please help
you can use www.davinciteam.com software to debrand v800 and make it
z800
much cheaper than other debranders.. uses t28 or dss-25 cradle

Hi!
Which version of the Davinci client did you use ?
What firmware files did you use, Z800_FS_EU1_R1X019.BIN and
Z800_Main_EU1_R1X019.BIN ?
What is the CID of the V800 you tried to upgrade to Z800: CID29 ?
What problems did you encounter ?
Thanks !

The one that was current about a month ago (i think it still is the
newest version, haven't checked the last few days)

I didn't flash a Z800 firmware, it was before Z800 firmwares were
available on their server
> What is the CID of the V800 you tried to upgrade to Z800: CID29 ?
I think so(but not zu Z800), I's quite some time ago.
> What problems did you encounter ?
The phone just wouldn't boot after the flash I loaded and when I tried
to reflash it, that maybe worked or sometimes it didn't. Even if it did
work, the phone wouldn't boot afterwards and it wasn't possible to
'finalize' the phone.
With SETOOL I loaded the 'erom-recovery' file and the phone went back to
life...

Re: Sony Ericsson V800 - please help
the r1x019 in davinciteam mirror site is cid29... the z800 needs cid36
which i used TMS to convert my v802 to z800i
i heard that tms has r1x031
the difference betw the 2 can be found here (link from someone in hofo)
http://tgiesi.free.fr/comp_019_031/
im still waiting for davinci to get the cid36 version from emma server.

Nope... just tried a few days ago and it was CID36 ...
my V800 being CID29, I could not upgrade using Davinci client...

That would be great (at this time only Setool2 standalone can do that),
especially if I can upgrade my V800 CID29...

Re: Sony Ericsson V800 - please help
TMS has it... you can use TMS to upgrade it... r1x019 and r1x031 has
little difference, maybe you could wait for more significant upgrade

Are you sure that I can upgrade my V800 CID29 to R1x031 CID36? (R1x019
on TMS was CID36) using TMS and a T28 Service cable??
Humm... not really sure
