    texting.

It is not as good as one would expect and compared to other modern phones. I
have a Nokia at work which I only have to recharge every 2nd week, but I use
it only for talking. My private K700, however, I have to recharge very 3rd
day or so, the interval depends on how much time I spend playing games,
listening to the radio or the mp3 player, wapping, etc. Mainly, while the
display light is on, it consumes a lot of energy. Likewise, if the radio or
mp3 player, nearly as much as when you use it for phone call, only that
while (at least my) phone calls last 30 secs, the radion or the mp3 player
runst constantly for a couple of hours. I think you chould compare the the
lifetime of a battery recharge on the K700 with some equipment with similar
functionality, e.g. a mp3 player, not with a simple phone.

Not too bad then, i guess i gotta think that im always gonna be near a plug
socket, even on holiday (i hope...), i did have a motorola v620 for about a
month, was good on battery life but i could use that iTap thing at all, im
hoping sony's way of predictive text will be more reminiscent of nokia's old
    version.

    Thanks

I find its battery life excellent. But what is true is that with the first
firmware revision I had really terrible standby (1-2 days), but as the
firmware updates came this problem got totally solved. Now I get 5-6 days
standby. This problem was totally software related!

I bought a Li-Polymer battery of 1300mAh on the net and with this one, I get
    7 days standby.

    Kind regards,

Oh right, and that fits into the k700i adn is better than the one thats in
it? I just ordered a k700i, decided to go for it, ope i wont have to change
the firmware! Dont have a clue how! Sounds about as fun as updating a bios!

If you had been slightly more patient, you might have waited a month or two
for the upcoming K750i, which seems to be a "K700++", it has a 2Mpixel
camera with autofocus, RDS radio, better display, support for Sony Memory
Stick Duo (up to 1GB) etc. etc. The battery life, however may not be much
    improved though...

Updating the firmware of the phone can be made through SonyEricsson's web
site, provided that you have a special sync station from SonyEricsson. It's
described on their web site, and is not very complicated, but if you
purchase a K700i now, it is very likely that it already has the newest
    firmware.

There has been many discussions about that the firmware upgrade has improved
battery life. that is not entirely true. Yes, some parameters in the
firmware, like the time the backlight is on and the control of the output
power from the HF unit to the antenna have been changed in the newer
firmware versions, and that may influence the battery life in a positive
way, but most of the times, when people have complained about that the
battery life is poor on the k700, the phone has been brand new, and so has
the battery. A brand new toy is played with much more than an old one, and
using the phone actively consumes much more power than having the phone in
standby mode in your pocket, and also, new Li-Ion batteries need a number of
charge-discharge cycles before they reach their full capacity. The Nokia
phone I have that I mentioned before, had to be recharged after 5 days the
first weeks I had it, but after a while the time interval increased, and
nowadays it's about two weeks between recharge.

    Hello!

The battery I ordered on eBay was better than the orginal battery. Just
search for K700 battery on eBay and you will find a lot of brand new
batteries from powersellers. I ordered mine in Germany (cause I'm from
    Europe) for just 12 euro!
Only buy from powersellers with good feedback, so you'll get a brand new
    one.

For updating you need a syncstation model DSS-20 or DSS-25, you can also get
that on eBay for a very low price in bulk (without the package, manual or
driver, but you can download them from S-E's site).
Updating firmware is very easy, but you need a syncstation, it doesn't work
    with a regular usb cable.

    Kind regards,

    Hasj Pee

I've read too much about it anyway, going for £300 on ebay, camera is very
good but naff at night adn battery life has been reported to be worse than
k700i from some greedy users, so it didnt really catch my eye. And i got a
good deal on this, £100 new with warranty, and i'm not big on gadgets unless
they really are good at what they do, adn 2mp aitn that special compared to
a 5mp fully dedicated camera unfortunatly.

I'll see, i just didnt want to be doing it everyday, as i mentioned it's
mostly gonnabe used for texting, i couldnt use my v620 for txting very
easily at all, battery life was good, menus were long and aggravating.

    Thanks
