    DAAAADDYYYY! ARE WE THERE YET?!

You still want it? Admittedly, I'm also still considering it, for the
sole reason that there is no Symbian-based alternative (spare us all the
Winmobile suggestions, thanks). For some reason I think SE has become so
ashamed about the hunk'o'junk the 990 represents by now that they are
simply going to deny it ever existed.

    Oliver,

Would you explain the reasoning behind your comments for us non enlightened
people. In particular, why do you see the P990 as a "hunk o junk" and why
do you think SE are going to deny it's existence?

    Thanks,

    Robert

Some complain that it is "just" UMTS, my main reason is the ancient WLAN
standard which makes it inadequate for usage in wireless networks that
require more than 4mbit of realworld performance. The devolution of the
jogwheel might also be irritating and lowering usage efficiency if you
had one of the previous models. Considering the enourmous time this
thing takes to get to market it better be freakin' brillant, but instead
    it just looks old.

OTOH SEs P-line still seems to be the only reasonable approach to
touchscreen symbian phones. I wonder why that is, and why there are so
many winmobile monstrosities lately instead. Maybe it is about the
interesting things you can do with green stuff, I have no idea.

You can find some enlightenment if you search this group for "p990",
there are several threads about it.

Oliver, I agree with most of what you said. The 990 would have been the
best phone on earth if it were released when the 910 was. But like you
    point out, where's the competition?

Can you explain the "devolution of the jogwheel" comment? I was lead to
    believe the 990 had one.

Ah ok. That doesn't bother me much, I never really used the fwd/back feature
anyway. So long as the wheel is still there and clicks in, that is what is
important for me. Bummer if you did use that old feature though...
