In case nobody here realised, the P990 is out. Expansys had some in stock
but they are selling their batches very quickly.

The main thing is that it means it's been released finally!

    See More: P990 is out!

Wonder why the SE website still has the P990 at "coming soon" status.

Not only is it out, but I managed to get my hands on one yesterday,
practically before the shop had unpacked it. It looks good, it feels good
    and it works good!

Worth waiting for, as the local brewery here in Bergen says about their
    beer!

Anyone seen a full review of the actual retail unit yet? All I found was
the one on expensi..eXpansys basically stating "fine but some things
don't work too well, crashed too, but nice nonetheless, wait for the
    software update".

I've been using p990 for two weeks now, and being used to p910 the last
two years, I've already noticed some areas for improvement.
    - The scroll wheel. Why did they remove the sideways-movement on the
wheel? Genius funtion, used for "back" and "options" choices in most
    menus/applications. Now they've put a small "back-button" beneath the
wheel as a replacement, but it doesn't give the same easy navigation.

    - Reduced functions for the scroll-wheel. On p910 the wheel could be
used i.e. for scrolling through the pictures in "picture-viewer" mode.
Nice function when the picture is maximized all over the screen. Now
you have to go back, select next picture etc.

    - Hopeless key-lock button on the left side of the phone. Wether you ut
the phone in your pocket (doens't lock good...) or in the "belt-case",
you're guaranteed the key-lock will switch of several times during the
    day.

There are other themes as well, but this is what I've found most
annoying so far. But of course, it's a wonderful piece of electronics
    :-)

This has been known from the first previews on. I would guess the rotten
5-way jog just broke too much. It is not very reliable in the long term.

WTF?!?! Are you 100% positive about this, maybe you just missed an
    option? Can't be!

Thanks for the impressions, please keep them coming

Sorry, you're right, I must somehow missed an option, the
    "scroll-through-pictures" function is still there.

In the last two days, the phone SW has run into a complete hung up
three times, not a good sign. On p910i this happened to me three times
during a period of two years...

*phew* Thought so. SE is nuts, but thankfully not that nuts...

Sounds like I will absolutely wait for the first update. Really want a
new phone though. I am still on a P800 and it annoys me to no end.

Rarely have I seen a review as crushing:

    What is _wrong_ with SE?

The five-way to three-way jog dial did it for me.

My next smartphone will not be the P990.

It's sad, isn't it? I am really thinking about just picking up Palm TX
and some super-small phone like the Samsung P300 (or the 310 once it
hits) to act as its webportal via Bluetooth. The Palm would be more
functional and reliable, the P300 much less bulk in the pocket. But it
would mean yet another battery to care about, yet another interface to
learn... plus Samsung's Mac support is even worse than SE's. From what I
read one can transfer vcards via BT, but iSync? No go.
