    Hi,
Wondering if someone could help me make a decision...
My contract with Orange (UK) is nearly up, I currently have a Nokia 7650
which I rather like except for the paltry 4MB of memory.
I've been considering making my next phone a Sony Ericsson P800, mostly
becuase I'd find the MP3 player handy. Can someone tell me what the MP3
player facility on the phone is like? If it's crap, is a better one
    available (preferably free)?
Also, how does the camera on it compare to a 7650 (I know the resolution is
the same, but how is the image quality compared to 7650?

I've used Nokias for 4 years now, I've never owned another brand (went from
    3210 to 7110 to 6210 to 7650).

What's the difference between the various forms of Memory Stick (MS, MS Pro,
MS Duo, MS w/MagicGate etc) and is it only MS Duo that will work on the
P800? What is the biggest memory card I can get?

Are there any other things you think I should know about the P800? Niggles,
interface issues, other reasons it's better than a 7650 etc, please let me
    know...

    TIA

ill help you out on this one:
    P800
    system: triple band GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 (7650 is dual band)
weight: 148g without flip / 158g with flip
    size: 48x28mm / 208x144 pixels (closed) 40x61mm / 208x320 pixels
    (open)
screen: 1/4 VGA color touch screen 4096 colors
    talk time: 13 hours
    standy time: 400 hours
camera image size: up to 600x480 pixels
color depth: 16 million colors (24-bit)
OS: symbian OS 7.0 with UIQ interface
memory: 16x16 MB 12MB available for images, etc. (expandable thru MS
    Duo up to 128MB)

MS Duo is a sony storage media technology... other types like MS Pro
are not supported by the P800. but MS Duo has a standard MS adapter for
    use with other gadgets.
the P800 has a built in video player that supports mp4 playback, it
also has an audio player that supports a lot of formats. it has an HTML
browser which is cool. overall, the 7650 doesnt even come close to the
    P800... the 7650's competition is the T610.

while being priced quite highly, i think the p800 is an awesome phone
with pda type qualities. i've never used the mp3 function, but i've
played with the phone and i can say that it has very nice build
    quality.

    Agreed.

    > i've never used the mp3 function,

Agreed. It's a smartphone, not an audio device. If you're the type of
person who has to have absolutely everything totally integrated into one
device you might like the P800 for playing MP3s as well, but if you are
rather the sane type, or have working ears - boy, go out and get an
iPod! The P800 audioplayer is so bare bones that I would be more pleased
to say that it's underequipped, and why should I want to use SE's
freakin' proprietary phones when I have Etymotic ER-4S? Why should I buy
super-expensive MemorySticks to store a handfull of MP3s in bad quality?
Because I can? No-way. The P800 is a neat device, and it does a lot of
things well, but the want for MP3 is not a pro-P800 argument.

    > but i've played with the phone and i can say that it has very nice build quality.

*cough* Can you get your hands on that one again, I'd like to swap. The
overall body is okay regarding stability, though the plastic used is way
too soft. The battery door though squeaks and skreeches whenever I lay
my hand upon the phone. You cannot even stabilize the lousy flap with a
bit of paper as I did with my Motorola V3690 (try that for neat
plastic!) as the P800 will become strangly flaky when put into it's
cradle afterwards, always turning on and off. I will say a lot of
positive things about the P800, I really like it, but build quality or
good haptic qualities are not on the list. The case is rather
substandard for a device of such high price. It is well possible that
all the money went into the excellent display, which AFAIAC is quite
scratch proof and has very good reflective qualities.

    no line two. on p800.
but it does seem to be worth the switch from nokia.

its bluetooth wouldn't work with my sony laptop with integral bluetooth. the
remedy suggested by SE has put all the wireless facillities of laptop out of
whack. and that screen will probably cost the same £420 that my laptop is
setting me back for a replacement.
be a bit cautious.otherwise go for it.

I don't have any problems with noise from the battery door when I pick
up or hold the phone, and never has it turned off or on when put into
the cradle with flip on/off open/closed.

hope all my info helps u make a decision i dont use it (normally) as
an mp3 player.. it is just for novelty. i use it primarily coz of it's
pda functions. im a proud owner of a mineral gray p800 with 128M MS
Duo. i hate the fact that the MS Duo's are pricey and quite hard to
find, but since i have one already i am not one to complain.

Ah, I still referred to the battery door when I said flap, sorry. When I
put some paper in between battery and battery door (in order to stop the
thing soundind like a 3$ phone in my hand), it would bekome flaky in the
    cradle.
