    Hi,

A short time ago i bought a Sony Ericsson P800, the reason why i got such a
phone was because of the Internet and Email functions it offers, ( on
business trips i mostly only need to check my emails).

The phone work fine, ( I can use all the functions on the phone), the only
problem is that the software that enables me to connect with my PC is
worthless, the computer crashes as soon as i plug the phone in the docking
station and a few other nasty problems occur until i remove the programme
altogether, (even if the phone is not plugged in).

So of course i contacted Sony Ericsson and asked them what to do, i first
contacted them on the 25/08 and got a acknowledgement two days latter,
(simply telling me that they are looking into it). A week latter i sent
another email complaining that i cannot use the phone without the software.
This time i got a reply simply telling me that someone else was looking into
    it. Since then nothing.

My problem is that without the Synchronisation and docking options the phone
is useless to me. If i cannot transfer my work email to/from my phone then i
might as well not check the emails.

Sony is not replying to my emails so what can i do?

I could take the phone back to T-Mobile but the way i see it is not their
fault. It is only the software that doesn't work. They will also probably
tell me to contact Sony Again.

So what can i do? I am using Win XP Pro, (and according to the box it should
work fine on any windows version).

    Thanks for your input.

I'm no legal boffin. But I can confirm I have a P800 and it works on 3 of my
XP pcs. (Work, home and laptop). Two of my friends also have them, and
theirs works on their pcs. Although I don't know the OSs they use.

Have you tried other pcs? It might not be the phone, it could be the pc....

Sorry I cannot help with the legal advice, but I hope this helps.

Well i am really sorry but it does not work here.
I am not going to buy another OS just for my phone. My computer is almost
brand new and is fairly top of the range so I am certain that it is not the
    case.

I already spent 400 quid on the phone and i don't feel like spending more on
it just to do what the box claimed to do in the first place.

I have no problems with any other applications running on my system.

As I say, I'm sure it isn't simply the OS as it works for me.

It could be your hardware setup/configuration, Sony cannot be expected to
make it work for every single setup. They've tested it on XP boxes and it
    clearly works.

Take it to a friends house and try it on their computer, I wouldn't be
surprised if it wasn't something on your pc causing the problem.

According to a post you made on the 2003-08-18 02:42:43 PST you got it
working on a Windows 98 machine.

As I've said, it's your pc.

There lie the problem, although i do not expect SonyEricsson to be bug free
i do expect them to at least try and help me.
It might work at a friends house, but so what? How does that help me? When i
bought the phone i made sure that my computer specs were better than the
minimum requirement, surely i did enough.

Is it my fault that it does not work on my system? It is not like i have a
old system, i have an up-to-date machine so i do expect the application to
    work.

Is it my Fault? Sony-Ericsson? Microsoft? Intel?

No it is not. My machine is fine thank you very much.

Sony Ericsson is wrong they should reply to my post sometime rather than
    ignoring me.

I do not believe that i am expected to buy i new computer because they do
not feel the need to reply to my post.

It most probably is a kind of setup problem. When I bought a new laptop
    (WinXPhome), it was impossible to connect it to T39 (via USB data cable);
with my previous Win98SE laptop there was no problem. A friend - more
techie than I - found the problem: For a reason totally strange to me, the
computer wanted the phone on COM5 port instead of COM1.

Sorry, I can't help more, but the fact that it works on other WinXPpro
    systems would keep me confident.

Have you tried to download the latest drivers and the latest
synchronization program from their web site?

And what is the content of the labels on you phone and on your docking
    station?

There is one particular label that is know NOT to work with XP.

I am not sure what you exactly you need but the label under the docking
    says.

    Type 4040034
    N173

I am not sure that it is what you need, where is that label, what number do
    you need?

    something like

    KRY 105 189 R1A DSS-20, Type 4040034B, N173, 03W10

So you do have part of the info.
    if it is

    then it will not work

Almost certainly caused by the drivers not working with your
    PC/operating system.

That can be caused by quite a few things, and is not necessarily a
fault with the product or software but simply a compatibility issue.

    Try the following:

Remove the Ericson software from the PC. Re-boot the PC with no other
USB devices plugged in. Close down any programs that run at startup
(preferably remove these from the startup menu before rebooting so
that they never run in the first place). Install the drivers in
*strict* accordance with the manual. Especially take note of when in
the installation sequence you are asked to plug the product into the
    USB port.

If that has the same problem, check how much free RAM you have left to
see whether it is a memory problem.
