This little gadget is awesome. I've had mine for about two days now. It's
rather tiny, so it doesn't make the camera unwieldy (unlike some snap-on
camera modules for example) and it sits securely on the socket too.

There's a button on the side that both engages the flash and takes pictures
if the camera is in camera mode already. If not, the button will bring the
phone into camera mode (and still engage the flash). There's a neato trick
with this button; the manual shows that double-clicking the button will make
it emit a constant light. This works even if the keypad of the camera is
locked, so it can easily be used as a torch if it's dark outside.

Contrary to the name, this isn't really a flash per se. It's actually a
rather strong lamp, using six very powerful blue-ish white light LEDs
arranged inside a reflective housing. The amount of light these little
things put out is literally blinding (for short periods of time anyway),
definitely to the point of being uncomfortable to the eye even if one merely
looks near the light source when it is shining. The reach isn't as great as
a real flash obviously, but I have done some trial photos and it sure helps.
As a torch, it has a range of maybe 2.5 meters or so of decently bright
light in dark surroundings, and from there it tapers off. Definitely enough
to make one's footsteps secure on a treacherous forest path for example.
Indoors the light is even more impressive, as nature doesn't reflect light
very well, but instead tends to absorb it.

One can also enable constant - and perhaps less useful - stroboscope and SOS
signalling light from the peripherals submenu in the communications group on
the preferences screen, though doing this will keep the display lit as well
thus draining more battery. Speaking of battery drain, despite the massively
bright LEDs, they don't draw all that much power. I guess the flash could
last for at least an hour on a full charge using the
"doubleclick-with-locked-keypad" trick. This gadget is really handy in case
of a power outage, or maybe an accident or such. That's maybe the only use I
can find for the SOS signal. As the LEDs give a rather narrow cone of light,
this thing should be visible as a flashing pinprick at quite a distance in
darkness, maybe several kilometers even if there isn't any rain, fog or
    haze.

It also comes with a neat-o black protective carrying case with a wrist
    strap.

Is it worth the cost? Hard to say... You'd have to make that judgement
yourself. I find it useful, but then again, I am one of those weird people
who find the T610 camera useful. If you hate the camera you'll probably
    hate this thing even more.

Is it worth the cost for a T610 (you didn't say how much)? Not for me
simply because the pictures from it are too poor. If it works with the
P800/900 then yes. I agree, it's a nice idea. As for the trick of using
it as a torch, I find the T610's display bright enough to get me to the
loo in the middle of the night

Quite how far cameras can go regarding quality, remains to be seen.
nVidia seem to think they'll get better if they are launching a MPU chip
for phones called the GoForce - 1.3MP.

I didn't say how much because obviously the price varies from country to
country and inbetween different retail outlets too of course.

For me, who don't have anything better as a camera anyway, I find the
pictures are somewhat decent as long as the ambient light level isn't too
high or too low. That makes the flash useful for that purpose. Enhancing
that which I already find to be a nifty feature.

Don't think it does. The package states it is for the T61x series of phones.

Hehe, well, this thing shines like 100x brighter than the display, so it
could get you to the loo in a royal way.

A pity then. The P800/900 deserves one as they deserve a clip-on
    keyboard.

I went to a friend's wedding a couple of months ago. I got lumbered with
the groom's vidcam but would have left my Olympus C4040z at home anyway.
One of the guests complained that she'd left her camera at home at the
same moment she put her brand spanking new P800 on the table. I burst
out laughing & pointed to her P800. She then proceeded to take some
shots. I was amazed by the results in preview mode - large & fairly
    detailed.

As an aside, my newly married friend said that my recording was fine but
had intermittent sound interference which he played it back to me. I
instantly recognised what caused it - my T39 was paging the BS -
    analogue vidcam!
