I finally got my v400 to cooperate with my computer (using mobile phonetools
    v2.16)

Does anybody know what format (kbps, etc) an mp3 needs to be in so that the
phone will upload and play it as a ringer? The documentation that came with
the phone is worthless, and I haven't been able to find any specs online.

got MP3's working on my v525 used a program called dietmp3 just playabout
with the settings to see how far you can shrink them I got a 3.5meg MP3 down
to 1.6meg and still sounds good. still cant get many on the phone though but
having a full MP3 song as your ring tone now that's cool

    Re: mp3 ringtone formats?

MP3s for the phone recommended to be 64kbps max, mono, 30 secs max. You
can make it longer than 30 secs but it will eat up the 5mb memory fast and
your cell provider probably doesn't let it ring longer than 30 secs before
    going to voicemail,

Also if you want to edit a certain part of a music track and have loads
of fun stuff to add to the cut,..like fading..etc..use GoldWave, its
excellent for doing this, and it will convert from any music format to
MP3 [any bit rate], you can even add your own recorded voice sample and
use that as your ring tone, i have meesed with doing this and its good
fun. [especially using your wifes voice as a ringer ID for her number...lol]
