    Re: Recommendations needed...

    Aron,
Keeping this 'on topic' for the nokia newsgroup which I am replying via.
The latest Symbian OS phones, like the 7650 and 6600 give you some of the
basic PDA functionality in a phone together with the facility to load in
programs as Java applications for special stuff you might want to do. I've
just moved up from a 7650 to 6600 with the main bonus being it can use MMC
cards to expand memory and the bluetooth works better. Not a bad option if
you just want to carry one device, not two.
There are some good deals going on the 6600 in the UK, but only if you are
signing a one-year contract. Expect to pay about £150 to have it on a
'pay-as-you-smile' card and then maybe £20 for unlocking it to any network.
You can find some on e-bay, but it is up to you if you want to take your
chances there or not. Plenty of e-bay sellers are honest and do good deals -
but not all of them. Check out the feedback.
The cameras built in to the 7650 and 6600 work in 'VGA' resolution - 640 x
480 pixels. Okay and convenient for quick snaps which will print out at
postcard size, but not as good as a so-many-megapixel digital camera. Once
again, convenient to have all in one device if you travel a lot - and the
memory card on the 6600 allows you to store plenty of pictures.
I'm happy with mine, but still use a 6mp digital camera for 'proper photos'
and a handwritten dieary for keeping my life organised.
    Kevin.

    | Hi,

    | Sorry if the x-posting is annoying some people, I just wanted to kill
    | a few birds with one stone.
    |
    | I currently have a Nokia 6100. I live in Israel. I will be in the UK
    | in less than 2 weeks (London & Manchester) at which time I would like
    | to buy a new cellphone. It has to be unlocked or easily unlockable
    | (without a cable, for free). I currently have a Palm Zire 71 (PDA)
    | and was thinking of getting a phone which would incorporate a PDA
    | with a phone such as the Treo 270 or (I understand there is) a Compaq
    | version with M$ Windows CE. I also have a Panasonic NV-DS60 Mini DV
    | Camera. Please whoever is kind enought to answer consider all my
    | other devices that I have.
    |
    | Anyway's these are my questions.
    | 1.
    | a. What phones better than the Nokia 6100 exist in the UK, at the
    | cheaper end of the range?
    | b. Where do I get them? (Doesn't have to be under insurance, can be
    | second hand as I will be bringing it back with me. Willing to trade
    | in my 6100).
    | 2.
    | a. Is it worth getting one with a CIF (digital camera in built),
    | what quality will the pics be?
    | b.Which is more worthwhile - PDA or CIF for the phone?
    | c. What phones are there with a CIF?
    | 3.
    | a. Is it worth getting a PDA phone?
    | b. Prices?
    | c. Treo 270 vs. iPaq? (considering I already have a Palm OS PDA,
    | maybe I should get a CE PDA too?)
    |
    | Thanks to anybody who could reply to me at [email protected].
    |
    | All the best,
    | Pickles.
