i recently switched my alltel startac phone to a t720. i have had 2 phones
and they are both junk. i will be talking and the volume drops off to a
whisper. sometimes i can adjust it back up with the volume control, but the
thing wont hold on to the volume for long.
the idiot at alltels customer service said they could ship it to motorola,
but this is obviously a design issue.
anyone else had a similar experience?

That sucks, definitely a flawed unit, unless you are accidentally pushing
the side volume button while talking ;-) Those guys should replace it at
once, instead of boning around with you. When I got my cell, I bought it
from a Best Buy with an extended warranty just to be safe. I had purchased
the extended warrantee before with other items, including an old V120c and
when that one went after a year and a half, they replaced it on the spot
with a newer model! No BS with sending it here or there etc.

This is my SECOND phone! I am not hitting the volume control, but even so,
it wont turn back up regardless.

Re: t720 woes please read
As I responded to your other post:
When the volume drops, try moving it lower on your ear. The speaker holes
are very low on the earpiece, and lowering it on your ear position often
helps. The earpiece has a very small sweetspot. If that helps, you can learn
to consciously place it lower on your ear and keep it there. I thought I had
a phone problem until someone pointed that out to me, and it worked.

The volume in my T720s is excellent. I have two T720s but have been thru
four. One was screwed from the get go (It had the latest software
version...T720_G_05.07.81R) and it was replaced on the spot by Cingular
with a T720 with the older software version. No problems with it. My
daughter's T720 was stolen (Older software version) and replaced
immediately on the spot by Cingular. Same phone, same software.
(T720_G_.05.07.42R) No volume problems with any of them.

Thank you so much! Thats what it is! What a design flaw however! Man, I
wonder how many people think they have a bad phone.

Re: t720 woes please read
I actually took the cover plate off, remove the torx screws, and pierced a
small hole on the other side, as there are 2 speakers in the earpiece. The
hole is only over one of the speakers. I made the hole in a higher position
than the one on the side with the factory hole. Helps quite a bit.
