One of the reasons I got a V400 was because it has a built-in speakerphone.
However, since it does not even give you the opportunity to engage this
feature until a call has been connected (i.e. dialed and answered), it is
virtually useless as a hands-free device in a moving car. So I am thinking
of getting a Motorola #98413 hands-free kit. But before I spend the money
I'd to know if this unit works like other hands-free adapters I have owned
(i.e. the speakerphone feature can be "live" at all times, not just after
the call connects) or if it works the same way as the built-in one.
I would appreciate some input from anyone who owns one of these units or has
used one. (No guesses, please.)
Thanks.

<<we have the 98413's on sale>>
Thanks, Sam, but the information on your website is the standard boilerplate
for this item. Before I commit to buying one I need to know if it will
function in the way I need it to (i.e. always on, rather than requiring that
the call be connected before the speakerphone function kicks in).

You need to go into the MAIN MENU-SETTINGS and Select CAR SETUP then
AUTO-HANDSFREE and then change to ON

<<You need to go into the MAIN MENU-SETTINGS and Select CAR SETUP then

That is the way my phone is set up and the built-in speakerphone does not
become available until a call is connected. Are you saying that this
setting will enable the external hands-free kit to function differently from
the built-in one and stay on all the time? (It certainly seems like it
should work that way but I'm hoping for confirmation of this before spending
the money on a separate adapter.)
