I was wondering if anyone knew the function of each of the wires
inside the charging wire that I have seen on most Motorola phones,
including my T720 (two metal pieces with hooks that latch into the
phone, then three small wires in between the 2 big ones). I was
interested in building some kind of battery pack made out of
rechargable betteries that I could use if my battery is low and I'm
somewhere away from my wall or car charger (especially because my
battery goes from three bars to low battery in about 3 minutes of
making a call after being at three bars for a while). It seems like
it would be fairly straight forward, couple of AA battery holders
connected to the end of a cut-off charger cable. I don't know too
much about this stuff, so if I am way off, please tell me. Thanks in
    advance for any help.

You can buy another battery on Ebay for $10, so I say, why bother? Sure
seems alot easier to reach in your pocket and swap batteries then lugging
    some home brew contraption around.
