I am a T-Mobile customer, currently using a Motorola v60 as my phone.

For my next phone I was thinking of getting a phone with Bluetooth (also
small clamshell model), so that I could connect my IPAQ 2210 Pocket PC to
the Internet via the phone using Bluetooth, rather than having to connect
with a cable, as I do now.

Now there is such a phone available for T-Mobile, the Motorola V600.

However, in looking at the features of the upcoming Motorola models MPX220
(smartphone), and MPX (Pocket PC Phone), they sound a lot better to me than
the V600. (They would duplicate a lot of the functionality of my IPAQ,
perhaps I would use the IPAQ less.) (I'd still use the IPAQ some, however,
due to the larger screen.) (Please, do not recommend the new T-Mobile IPAQ
6315 to me. Not interested in that at all. Too big and bulky to be my main
phone. It has had bad reviews in any case.) (Ditto for most "Pocket PC
Phones". Of no interest to me, other than the new MPX, which will fold up
    like a regular clamshell phone.)

The original reports of the MPX220 and the MPX said that they would first
become available on T-Mobile. Now I've read recent reports that said
T-Mobile backed out of the deal, and that they would first become available
on ATT Wireless. Is that true? Are they not expected to come out via
T-Mobile at all, or just later?

I'm unhappy with T-Mobile about this? Why do they have less choice of phones
than other carriers, and backed out of deals to carry what seem to be
excellent innovations in the MpX line?

ATTW also got the MPX200 first, and T-Mo never carried it. IN fact, the
V600, which just now became available on T-Mobile, had been available for
months on ATTW and Cingular. Why so much later for T-Mo?

Anyone know which department at T-Mo decides on which phone to carry, and is
there a way to contact them to submit feedback? I did write a note to
customer service on the T-Mobile web site, but I doubt it will ever get to
    the decision-makers.

Yes, I know, when the mpx220 and mpx come out, I could buy it unlocked on
Ebay or through an online retailer, but there are definite disadvantages to
going that route. One, since my T-Mobile contract has expired, in exchange
for contract renewal I could get the same discount buying the phone in a
T-Mobile store as a new customer, which would cost significantly less than
buying the phone unlocked online. (It is apt to be very expensive unlocked
online at the beginning.) Buying a phone through Ebay could be risky. And
of course, buying a phone that way, it would not be covered by T-Mobile's
replacement warranty, which is good. (If you buy a phone from.through T-Mo,
and anything goes wrong with it during the first year, you call them, and
they will immediately send you a new (refurbished probably) one, with a fast
shipping method, plus a postpaid box to return the old one in. Obviously
they will not do that with a phone that hasn't even been approved for their
    network.

So, I might just buy the v600 soon.

Or--do people think that T-Mobile will eventually carry the mpx 220 and mpx,
even if a few months later than ATTW?

don't wait on some operator carrying mpx220 or mpx - just buy it either

"Life is too short to wait"---well, true for some things, not true with
others. To be the first to get a new product, I don't know that that's of
life-shattering importance. In fact, that's often not a good time to buy a
product, when it first comes out, as it often then has bugs that are fixed
in time, one gets to read reviews of the product from others, etc. It also
is most expensive when it first comes out.

I already explained in depth why it is much preferable to me to buy the
phone from or through my carrier (T-Mobile), rather than from "some online
shop" or Ebay. If you wish to see my reasons, go back and read the original
    post on this thread.

As far as switching carriers just to get a particular phone, I don't think
that makes much sense. In deciding on a carrier one has to consider a lot of
factors--price, the number of minutes received, reception, coverage, etc. To
switch plans just to get a particular phone would be stupid. If I really had
to have that phone, then I guess buying it "from some online shop" would be
the answer. But I doubt it would make a major difference in my life, which
    phone I buy.

    (I have a good plan with T-Mobile--for $39.99 per month, 1000 weekday
minutes per month, unlimited on weekends, can connect via GPRS to Internet
without extra charge, no long distance or roaming fees (I make all my LD
calls with my cell phone, so no long distance bills), etc. So it would have
to be a really good plan to get me to switch carriers.)

That said, I am unhappy with T-Mobile's phone choices, and would like to
complain to them further about that. Especially since I read that originally
the mpx and mpx220 were scheduled to come out first on T-Mobile, and that
T-Mobile pulled out of the deal. Perhaps if many of us complain to them that
we would like those phones, they will get them later, as they did with the
v600, months after ATTW and Cingular had it.

Getting a little impatient for a Bluetooth phone, I may just buy the v600,
however. Then next time I'm up for a new phone, in a couple of years, get a
smartphone like the mpx line, or whatever is out then. (Presumably, there
will be a lot more and better smartphones out by then.)
