I bought the V710 from, yes, Verizon, about a couple of weeks ago and, to my
surprise, this POS doesn't work as advertised. Bluetooth, doesn't work as
it should - I knew this before and didn't care because I thought the USB
cable with Mobile Tools would work to sync my address book in Outlook with
my V710. Nope. Doesn't work in spite of what that dude in India said when
I called Motorola today. He guided me to the company that makes Mobile
Tools (BVRP or something) and I downloaded an upgrade (I believe it was
version 2.21b). Installed the crap and it didn't recognize the phone;
however, the software can recognize that I have plug the USB cable in the
computer and phone and attempts to find the phone. After that, the
program's phone picture interface says, "Intializing" but never finds the
phone. I click on the option to find an upgrade and it did (version 2.21e).
"Okay," I said, "Upgrade again." Crap still doesn't recognize the phone.
Question: Does the Mobile phone tools with USB cable work at all? Or is
this just crap?
Question: Is it true that there will be a fix soon. That Indian guy told me
November. I think this is a bunch OS!
I called Verizon the other day and talked with 3 people before finally
getting a manager. He didn't know much about what was going on but he was
really helpful. He called me back the next day and said that he will take
the phone back, even though I didn't have the box and will credit me and
shut off service if I didn't want to purchase another phone (I must also add
that I hinted that I would sue due to the fact the Verizon's and Motorola's
web site clearly states that the phone is a Bluetooth phone with the ability
to sync with other Bluetooth devices for headsets, data, etc. Verizon's
says that I can sync to a PC or PDA anywhere at anytime.
Too bad, I thought that I wanted to try Motorola out again after they
fumbled the ball to Nokia years back. And I wanted to buy American this
time. Now, I'm probably left with all those Korean LG (Lucky Goldstar -
****!) and Samsung phones...which are okay, but God knows I don't want to
support that economy because they don't believe in buying **** from anyone
else but Korean.
Sorry about my 2-cents above; however, that's the way I feel.
Motorola - you dropped the ball again. Get a clue from Japanese phone
makers in Japan. Idiots!

See, I've heard the same kind of problems with the V600 as well. I have
NEVER had any problems with Nokia. I'm looking at buying the V600 this
week but I hear that the problems your having are the same for the V600.
Oh joy!

Re: Bottom Line...V710...Does this **** work or not?
According to Motorola in answer to a question I posted on their site, the
November Phone Tools update will allow Bluetooth or USB retrieval of
pictures and syncing to PC.
"Regarding your question, the solution consists of a firmware upgrade that
will restore the OBEX profile missing in the V710. Once done this the V710
will be Bluetooth enabled and you will be able to retrieve the camera
pictures via the Bluetooth link or via a USB connection."

Re: Bottom Line...V710...Does this **** work or not?
So, I have to wait 2 mos. for this crap to work when it should have done all
of that in the first place? Geez, what the hell is America coming to? So,
did they (Verizon or/and Motorola) cripple the phone on purpose? I've read
that here in the group. So, after November I will be able to sync my
contacts and schedule into this phone by phone or USB cable?
I don't think I can wait. What a bitter taste in my mouth. Guess, I have
to go Korean or Japanese (Kyocera). Get a clue American corporations!

Re: Bottom Line...V710...Does this **** work or not?
Does LG or Kyocera or Samsung or Sanyo make a CDMA (or GSM) phone sold in
the U.S. that even includes bluetooth? NO. Does Nokia sell a CDMA phone in
the US that includes Bluetooth? NO.
Stop comparing apples to oranges.
VZW requested the OBEX profiles in the v710 be turned off to force people to
use GIN. A pure revenue-driven business decision, which I happen to
completely disagree with as well. However, they know, as well as most other
people do, that well over 50%, if not 80% of their customers demanding
bluetooth wanted it for headset and handsfree use, and that's it.
Then, you diverged into the synching the phone with a USB cable. You can't
wait two months? You don't think the other manufacturers ever lag behind in
software and accessory support when it comes to new models?
Get over it. It will be along. If you waited this long for the phone, you
can wait for the software. Let someone else be the beta tester and relax.
If you can't, it really isn't necessary you come here and spout off.

You can't

The really funny thing is that most of the Qualcomm chipsets they
all use do include the necessary bluetooth hardware! Obviously it
still needs the BT antenna and some software enabling.
Heck the one they used in the LG VX4400 supported BlueTooth and SD
cards, and it was from 2000.

Yes. After getting all the latest updates to Mobile phone tools (using the
built in updater) I was able to read contacts to and from the v710 with the
Verizon USB cable that they sell for Motorola phones (it even has a sticker
on the Mobile office kit that says v710). Mobile phone tools will even
synch with outlook (I am using Office 2003 and it seems to work!)
