Boost Mobile activated my Motorola i730 a couple days ago. So far I
like the phone, except that there's no GPS navigation function. The
i730 only takes GPS fixes and displays lat/lon. But according to this
Web page, if you get the same phone through Telus in Canada, it comes
loaded with a Java navigation app:

    http://www.arcx.com/sites/Motorola%20i730.htm

I would like to get that, or something similar. Neither the Boost
Mobile nor the Nextel site seems to have any such thing. Yesterday I
took the phone to a service center for a GPS upgrade, and the tech
    didn't know anything about this.

I don't need a map, turn by turn directions, routes, or any of that
fancy stuff. All I need is direct steering to a point previously
memorized, such as my car in a big parking lot. If the app allows
manual entry of the destination coordinates, that would be nice.

Any suggestions? Please keep it simple, because this is my first cell
phone. On the other hand, I've been a GPS user for 10 years, and it's
frustrating have no GPS navigation on the phone because a piece of
    software isn't included.

I have the same phone. The nav function is under the java apps. It's
called telenav 2.2. It's a subscription service that you have to
register for but the application should already be in your phone.

Snipped from nextel.com about the i730:

    "Java Applications
    • Get answers at your fingertips or take a break from a hectic schedule
with included applications and games. Pre-loaded applications include:
Advanced Calculator, TeleNav 2.2 with compass, WayToGo COI with location
    service demo. Games include: ......"

Thanks for replying. The Java apps that come with the phone depend on
the service provider. With Boost Mobile you get nothing but games
    (which I deleted).

Also, I went to the Telnav web site, and it doesn't look like what I
want. I don't see how Telnav can find my car in a big parking lot, for
example. That's easy for a cheap GPS receiver, but I'd like to use my
phone for those occasional simple jobs. Does the Telnav app do basic
GPS navigation even if the subscription service isn't purchased? If
so, maybe I can find a service center to load it for a reasonable
    price.

In case anyone is going to mention howardforums.com, I'm aware of that
site. Should have said so in my original posting. They've been having
technical problems the past few days. Pages take a long time to load.
When the respose time improves I'll ask my question there.
