The GSM overlay by ATTWS/Cingular is essentially complete. The remaining
    holes are mostly roaming partners.

T-Mobile will presumably compete on price and service.

Along these lines, any[one] who currently has, or knows someone with
TMobile service, have stories of roaming charges, tower transfers when out
    of TMobile coverage areas, etc?

I'll be following these groups over the next couple of years as my two
year Verizon Wireless contract ends to see what direction to go, to see
who will offer what prices and quality of customer service and overall
    service (roaming issues, etc).

    Thanks.

What difference is there between a Ford and a Chevy? Why do both remain in
business? Are you suggesting that there should be a monopoly for every kind
of product and service? Only one company for each kind of service or
product? That would be a disaster! Competition is essential, to give
companies impetus to improve their products and services.

I think it's unfortunate that antitrust legislation has been weakened in
recent decades. Competition should be preserved. ATT and Cingular should not
have been allowed to merge. It would be a disaster if T-Mobile went out of
business, or was bought up by them.

What differentiates T-Mobile? Price, for one thing. Look at my post to see
    what my monthly rates are.

Check with your local T-Mobile store. Plans might vary by region.

As I said I have no roaming charges, free long distance anywhere in the US,
$39.99 for 1000 monthly anytime minutes, weekends unlimited, and free GPRS
(although they do not advertise the latter).

Usually more than one each year, which still fits my definition IMHO.
