It appears this "Mobile Phone Tools" (MPT) thing, sucks. I know it isn't
nearly as friendly as some of the previous s/w I've used. Going with the
squeaky wheel theory, we should all probably start complaining (John N. you
can abstain) to Motorola, BVRP (the folks who wrote it) and perhaps,
Cingular. Be as factual, courteous and succinct as possible. Acting like
a jerk never gets one very far.
For Motorola: 1-800-331-6456

For BVRP: (720) 330-1458
http://support.bvrp.com/support_form.php
Cingular: God knows...I suppose 1-800-331-0500 or (611 from your Cingular
phone)

You are using a Genuine Motorola USB cable? Some third party USB cables
are known to be problematic.

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
You might want to look at Data Pilot ($39 at www.datapilot.com) as an
alternative.

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
Do you have any experience with Data Pilot? How it works? MPT has so
amny problems that I will probably pay another 40 bucks to get anything
that works

Have you used this product? The reviews on Amazon were mostly bad, although
some were a bit dated. It sure looks like a good package if it can do half
what they advertise on the web site. I'd just like to hear from someone that
has actually used it with a motorola phone (preferably a V551).
Cheers

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
When I first got a v600 I didn't like MPT because you could only sync
contacts with Outlook or OE and wanted to keep the contacts in a
standalone database like I used to do with TruSync. Data Pilot offers
that so I bought it and it works well. However, now that MPT has a
standalone database option I use that more. I will say that Data Pilot
is easier or at least more reliable for connections but it does not yet
support Bluetooth. If you try it they give you a 30 day return
privelage. I've used both programs with a v60, v600 and now a v3.

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
Unfortunately it looks like there is no synchronization option with
Outlook phonebook in Data Pilot. You can just copy from one phonebook
to another. I can do this with MPT

The original message from Craven is the point <It appears this "Mobile Phone
Tools" (MPT) thing, sucks.> I used to have a Nokia and their software was
not only excellent, it was FREE! MPT does suck. I guess that's the
difference between American and Asian products?

The software that came with my Sony phones was crap as well, so that sort of
blows up your Asian theory.

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
MPT REALLY sucks! Took me 3 days & 7 calls to TS to get mine to function
for my V180; turns out the install instructions hipped w/it were completely
wrong; the excuse was that "the phone is so new the proper installation
instructions haven't been written yet";
hm, ok, here's a good idea; let's release a product that no-one can use!

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
So the it came with SW that was FREE?
Free crap is in my mind much better than expensive crap.

Crap is still crap, free or otherwise. Plus you do understand that the
bundled SW is not "free" right? MPT could be bundled as well but would you
be willing to pay $35 more for a Moto phone to get "free" MPT software?

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
Except in the US, MPT is usually bundled with the phone. In fact, when I
bought a v600 from a Hong Kong dealer, it was bundled with MPT, a BT
headset, and other goodies. US customers only look at price so the
carriers order the minimum configuration. Don't blame Moto - they're
just delivering what was ordered.

Re: Motorola support (or lack of)
OK guys. Sorry for the distraction of American vs. the Far East (I love this
US of A). The point was the MPT is buggy, it hangs during sync, it has
trouble detecting the phone, it clobbers source data, etc. And that Moto
seems to not care about releasing buggy code. Plus, I don't doubt that the
micro-code is also buggy that is why the v551 also hangs and misbehaves.
BTW, has Moto released any firmware upgrades to the V551?
