V3 - Silent mode?

Is there a way to turn the phone onto silent mode quickly, instead of
turning down the volume key to silent?

There are two ways to do that:
With the phone closed, hit the long button on the left side of the
case. The small outside display will show "Loud" or whatever style
you're using. You then press the small button to change the style.
OR, You can create a shortcut to the ring style page as I've done
myself. Go to the ring styles page by pressing Menu: Settings: Audio:
then, with 'Style' highlighted, press 'Change' which takes you to the
Style page. Press and HOLD the Menu button till the phone asks if you
want to crat a Shortcut. Press Yes and select a button to use ( I use
7). Now whenever you want to change the style press Menu then 7 (or
whatever you chose) to go right to the style page and select silent by
pressing the UP arrow once and then Select.
