    Hello,

I recently bought a Motorola V3, and whilst I am very pleased with the phone
itself, I'm having trouble trying to find suitable software for
synchronising my contacts and calendar with Outlook. I was somewhat
unimpressed to discover that the bundled software would only work with its
own internal software, and rather more unimpressed when the full version of
the software didn't work properly either.

The contacts synchronisation was well enough, but the Calendar
synchronisation is truly dire. It worked once, but failed utterly to cope
with any recurring appointments, instead just ignoring them. Subsequent
attempts to synchronise just crash the software, and it won't open again
    until after I've closed Outlook.

There have been a couple of recommendations that I've spotted recently on
the group, but they don't appear to really meet my requirements. DataPilot
looks like it will only use its own internal Calendar, and TrueSync doesn't
appear to support a Calendar at all, nor does it claim support for the V3.

The Bluetooth dongle I bought came with some software from 'Mobile Action',
although this is even worse. It won't work with a generic BT adapter, and
requires you to install their own drivers that prevent anything else from
using the device. A bit of fiddling with bt.inf convinced Windows to
    install Microsoft's generic drivers however.

I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest a package that might meet my
requirements, which I would have though are really pretty typical of most
    users.

o Synchronise with a Motorola V3 via a generic Bluetooth adapter.
o Work directly with data stored in Outlook.
o Support recurring appointments in a sensible fashion. (Perhaps, split
them up to store on the phone, and look for any exception that need to be
    made when updating Outlook)
o Provide full control over the mapping of field within Outlook to fields
    in the phone.
    o Work reliably!!!
o Provide some functionality for transferring other media to / from the
phone. An explorer shell extension like the Nokia software provides would
    be nice.

I'd also appreciate software that doesn't have a GUI designed to the like
the phone; I find them really quite clunky and hard to use.

    Many thanks for any suggestions,

    Chris Key

DataPilot will indeed synch with Outlook. See their info at
www.datapilot.com. However, I don't know if they support BT yet.

Thanks for the reply. Can you confirm that DataPilot with indeed
synchronise *directly* with Outlook, as opposed to simply allowing one to
export, sync and reimport again. My reading of
http://www.datapilot.com/calendar.htm, combined with the picture showing
their own calendar interface seemed to suggest otherwise.

    Furthermore,

    http://www.susteen.com/Demo3/cal_3.htm

    and

    http://www.susteen.com/Demo3/cal_10.htm

do seem to make it conclusive.

I don't use it to synch with Outlook so I can't tell you the process.

    Hi Bruce,

Thanks anyway. I'll have a go at asking the DataPilot people themselves.
