I'm not sure why I haven't figured this out yet, but is there a way to
store multiple phone numbers (i.e. home, cell, work, etc) under one
listing. I have tried but the number I want to add shows up as a
separate listing in my phonebook. I really don't need two separate
listings for the same person. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Can
    someone help?

    Thanks,

    MED61

You can't do exactly what you want, but if you go to the phonebook,
choose Menu --> Setup -> View --> "Primary Contacts" then it will only
show each name once, and you can use the Left and Right arrows to pick
which number you want to dial.

The entries are still managed somewhat independently, but at least it
    cleans up the phonebook listing.

When you right/left arrow, it changes the icon, indicating the
work/mobile/home. If you "select" or "view, then you can scroll up and
down through the multiple entries for that name, showing the number and the
    text description of that entry.

Will that work if you store the numbers on the sim card or do they have to
be in the phones memory? If I remember correctly you have fewer options
    using the sim card.

    Thanks, Steve

you could also try reading the manual! lol

If you use the righ/left arrow method to scroll though the additional numbers under the primary contact, make sure you pay attention to what number you view last. it will become the new primary. Another way is to just highlight the primary and use the softkey that says veiw. then scroll up and down to se all numbers and info. Yes they need to be stored on the phone to have access to all features.

Reading the manual is usually a good suggestion but I think Motorola makes
by far the worst manuals I've ever seen. They make good phones but for my
money the manuals are near totally useless.

You think motos is bad? Read one from dell! lmao

If you are with cingular there new online guides is pretty good. It will walk you through every feature and show you every setting there is. Except of course for the ones that 'aren't' supposed to exist!

The V551 manual mentions setting the primary number, but it doesn't mention
how to use it, or the right-left scroll, unless I am missing it.

That is an online tutorial set from Cingular that is handy for quite a few
things, not the manual that you mentioned earlier.

It doesn't mention categories, or the use of the primary number, unless I
    missed it.
