There is no information in the manual about communicating with my
computer with my new v 551. I have a few questions:

    1. How do I communicate with my computer?

    2. Do I need to buy a USB cable, a Bluetooth adapter, or both?

    3. Is MPTools the only way to go and where is the cheapest place to
    buy it?

    4. What is the best Bluetooth head phone, I have heard there isn't a
    best yet?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tucker

USB probably just for hacking, BT adapter for mPT and java games and apps.

http://www.shopoem.com/ ? I think you can buy V3 and autoupdate it from within the program
It does everything reasonably well but use http://brobin111.blogspot.com/ for games and java apps

I use BT just for Headset. (HS810 - works just fine) and USB cable
for all else. Took a chance and got the cable and MPT off ebay for
$12.00 CA, so it's cheap. I was lucky, the cable both fits, and
works. Actually, so far it's worked on all my V series phones. (V60,
    v300, v551, and a T720)

    Re: v551 <-> my computer ??

    Hi Tucker,
I have used DataPilot - www.datapilot.com - for numerous Motorola and Nokia
phones. It enables me to painlessly upload and/or download pictures,
ringtones, phone book, etc. I've shared my phone book, and moved it from an
old phone to a newer one - most recently from my V400 to my V551. I use a
USB cable. I have one that accommodates a charging cable, so when I use the
phone as a modem for extended periods, it is also being charged.

    I also use another device - Dock-N-Talk - www.phonelabs.com - that lets me
plug my cell phone into my phone system when I get home, to charge the phone
and let me use any phone extension to answer cell calls or place them -
handy to have another line, with Cingular's free long distance.

I don't own stock in either company, but am willing to pay for reliable
convenience. Both items can be found, cheaper, at Best Buy, MicroCenter,
    etc., or on the Internet.
    Best regards,
    Paul

    Re: v551 <-> my computer ??

I take it you are pretty happy with your Dock-N-Talk? I've been
considering getting one or a CellMerge or a CellSocket which all seem
to function fairly similarly. My goal is to port my home number over
to a cell phone and then drop the land line all together if the device
    works as advertized.

    Re: v551 <-> my computer ??

    Hi Sean,
The Dock-N-Talk has worked flawlessly for me for over a year. However,
since the cellular coverage at my house leaves something to be desired, the
call quality, either with Dock-N-Talk or just using the cell phone at my
ear, is not predictably perfect. I wonder if I should look into an external
antenna? But that would probably make plugging my cell phone in at home
into an annoying complex installation process, not just "click click".

Also, cell service apparently cannot be used for DTMF overdialing.
Yesterday I attempted to use the Dock-N-Talk line to participate in a
GoToMeeting conference call, but my many attempts to join the conference by
entering the specified numbers were rejected as incorrect. My 1st attempt
on my landline succeeded. There may be other reasons to keep a landline.
    But I like your idea.

The CellMerge product you mentioned is interesting - it combines your
landline and cell phone on the same twisted pair. This avoids needing
two-line phones, or separate phones for each line, or a phone system (I have
a small Toshiba DK40). Sharing one line implies that two people cannot be
on different calls at the same time.

Like the DataPilot product, the Dock-N-Talk supports an significantly larger
group of cell phone brands and models. Since they have to reverse engineer
the protocols to interface with most of them (the manufacturers and carriers
are extremely protective of their proprietary rights), these two companies
must be larger, with all the support and stability that may imply.
    Best regards,
    Paul
