    Hi Folks!

Does anyone know how to unlock a v500 for free? It's currently locked to
    Orange.

No one does it free except your carrier. Ask Orange for the unlock code.
Tell them you will be travelling abroad and want to use a prepaid card
in the foreign country. Here in the US, TMobile gets you the code within
    a few days of asking.

You can't (not for free anyway). Either pay an indy phone shop a few quid
to do it (no more than £10 - after all, it's only 30 seconds to unlock it
using SmartClip), pay someone to unlock it remotely (expensive and can take
a while due to a crappy code server), or send it to one of the unlockers (us
included) that post regularly on uk.telecom.mobile. Alternatively, you can
pay Orange (about £20 I think) for the code.
