    Re: V3 Razr: KB used?

My mods went well! I changed the Cingular flex to the TMo "flexlash"
that Motox did and reflashed to get the video recording and phone book
multi-character search. In fact, earlier today I flashed the new
"42_07R" that you mentioned (but haven't noticed anything different
yet). I've also done some SEEMs editing to "unhide" some of the menus
and icons I wanted as well as set some preferences.

Any recommended newbie guides to installing it?

I'm a geek by nature, but haven't had much time to look into modding my
cell phones in the past (although I've had data cables and done simple
stuff to my iDEN phones since 2000ish), but I'm going to schedule some
    research time in pretty quick.

    Re: V3 Razr: KB used?

Yes, Read the guide (and everything else on his site) at www.motox.us -
that's the best. Also, read the guides under the "stickies" at
www.motomodders.net under the Razr v3 topic. For SEEMs editing, read
the guide at http://www.xlr8.us/hofo/. Personally, I like MotoKit for
    SEEMs edits.

And, here's a little personal experience and advice from someone who's
just recently gone through the "noob" transition:
Backup your phone - I used Motokit to do that and MPT for the
phonebook. If you bought any games that were downloaded they will be in
    the backup.
The first time you flash you might find that your keypad is dead.
That's fairly common and is OK. Run the "Keypad Fix Flex" from Motox's
site (takes 5 seconds) and that will be solved forevermore.
Be VERY sure that any FLEX or FLEXLASH will not lock your phone if it's
unlocked. The files on Motx's site are clearly labeled.
If you are converting from Cingular to TMo and install the Tmo flexlash
and the latest reflash that was discussed earlier, video recording will
work without any further SEEMs editing.
Before editing SEEMs, backup the file so you can go back to a known
working configuration. I kept the file and stored it with a different
name so it couldn't get changed. No matter what you do, it's highly
unlikely that you will ruin your phone as there are several ways to
recover it if you do something wrong.
At least on my PC, which is gasping it's dying breaths, I have to run
PST before running Motokit or P2KTools. I just run it, close it, and
then run the program I want to connect to the phone.
Ask away if you have ANY questions. (I, for one, don't get offended by
noob questions from those who need clarification or reassurance before
    taking the plunge.)

The improved phonebook search is well worth the effort imo, but the
video recording is little more than a gimmick. It's still of
marginally more use than MotoMixer, though. <g>

Image display is definitely improved on my phone, although I never had
the 'checkerboard problem' mentioned by other owners. Signal strength
also appears marginally better - I'm seeing the full five bars more
consistently around the house where on 41_3CR it fluctuated between
five and three depending on the room I was in.

I'm thinking about going the other way and hiding things I don't use
to 'declutter' the phone. I'll get it the way I want it one day! :-)

Any idea if reception is better, or if they're tampering with the
    display?

Yeah, I thought of the same thing (and the MotoMixer immediately came to
    mind, imagine that)

Glad all went well for you. Did you set up the video recording for
unlimited length? The default of about 7 seconds is useless. With the
unlimited length it's nice to take some candid shots or even a walk
around shot of an item you're thinking about buying. I d/l to my PC and
free up the memory rather than store them on the phone. They playback
using QuickTime. It's particularly handy for catching cute things that
    babies do.

The latest s/w update is an official moto leaked release. There are mainly only 'under the hood tweaks' but it is the 1st in the next series, hence the version number. picture checker boarding is fixed, menu speeds improved slightly and digital recording affects are now supported with a simple seem edit. Reception and battery differences are relative, since settings and features used by the individual can affect results.

Other users have reported that the image display is improved so that
one seems definite. The reception question, as Troyboy says, is
difficult to quantify as it could well be down to my own settings or
    local cell performance issues.

Yes, but I've had great difficulty making any recordings. I must be
missing a setting somewhere but as I'm not really interested in using
the video I'm not busting a gut to work out what. :-)

I'm having trouble finding any areas that my Razr reports as marginal
reception, all I can find is 4/5 or 5/5 bars, or no service at all.

I'm on the stock firmware supplied by Rogers, I haven't had the time to
hax0r my phone yet, but is this typical? -- I tend to not trust the
indicator until I see it move through the whole range, and see whether
or not I can make calls at 1 bar, and/or how the voice quality is.

Another thing I've noticed, the battery indicator seems inconsistent, it
indicates a full charge for the vast majority of the day, then drops
VERY quickly. Worse, it often shows a full charge, but if I connect a
charger it goes to one notch, or flashing red (almost dead) -- Is this
    typical of the Razr?

Yes, the battery meter is almost worthless but at least you get a little
bit of warning. When you plug the charger in, even if it's showing 3
bars, it may drop to zero but usually comes back up very quickly (like
    within 10-20 minutes).

Quick tip. If you ever flash/flex and you only have one battery, after the update run the battery till it's totally dead and will not power the phone on. Then do a full 12 - 24 hour charge and it should be back to normal. This really applies to all times you do mods with a usb cable that charges, but the flash/flex really drains the battery. The option I decided was the best, was to get an extra battery and use one for all mods and the other for nothing but normal use. I also got a $9 desktop battery only charger from cnn.cn that works great. I normally kill a battery by the end of a 12 hour shift at work, but now I always have one thats charged. I'm testing a new 1900mah battery now, will report back.
