I bought an antenna, dash bracket and the hang up cup for my wife's
car. Her car has uconnect which works great with the v551, so I don't
need the rest of the pro installation kit. I'd like to use the hang up
cup just for power/charging and the antenna connection.
The vendor I bought the unit from stated on their website that the hang
up cup can be used without the installation kit but would require
modifying the cable. Before I cut into the cable, is there a source
for the pin id? I'm interested only in the three power pins.
I'm assuming I can disassemble a car charger and connect it up to the
hang up cup cable. Has anyone done this?
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Can you unplug the cable from the hang-up cup? If so you can plug a regular
car charger in, I have the Motorola OEM cup and it works on mine

Sheesh, this is why I was an English major. Brilliant idea, and it
works. So, to hard wire the thing, are there wires for all three
contacts on the charger plug? Before I tear apart a lighter charger,
does anyone know if there are electronics in the charger unit? Or is
it just a positive and negative lead.
Thanks again,
Jason

OK, it looks like the ac charger has two wires to the plug and puts out
less than 6 volts to the phone. Does anyone have an idea if the car
charger steps down the voltage from 12ish to 6 as well?

Re: v551 hang up cup hack...
Here is an idea for you. Go to Radio Shack and get a cigarette lighter
extention cord. Cut off the male end and wire it directly to the car. I
would do it so it is always hot. Make sure there is a fuse on it. Take the
car charger and plug it in to the plug then neatly tuck it all away
somewhere under the dash or something.
