Well, I sprung for a copy of MPT. 3.25b. I had played with a copy some
time ago and had very little success. This time, when I installed it,
I got the old Installation Failed message with the driver:
=================================================
'An error occurred during the installation of the device.'
'The installation failed because a function driver was not specified
for this device instance'
=================================================
Manually installed the driver. Got it to talk. Rebooted. Gone.
Ran MPT, did not detect my modem. Manually installed driver. Still
won't see it. Rebooted. All gone.
Tried to run P2Kman.exe. Didn't find a modem. Got my "New Hardware"
window. Tried to point to a driver. Didn't like it.
It works EXACTLY the same with BT and USB.
WTF do I have to do to get this working? The BVRP forums are useless.
I'm getting really fed up with this software.

Re: Phone tools problems
Did you EVER plug the phone into this PC before installing MPT? If so,
you need to delete it from COM ports, Modems and USB devices from Device
Manager, reboot, install MPT and only AFTER the install is complete
should you plug in your phone.

Re: Re: Phone tools problems
Unplugged phone, shut down MPT, ran the Driver Tool (from BVRP) to
remove all drivers. Removed all modem/Motorola in Control
Panel/System. Rebooted, Reinstalled MPT. Plugged in phone.
A window popped up telling me it was installing Motorola Phone. 2 secs
later, the window came up with the dreaded:
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The installation failed because a function driver was not specified
for this device instance.
I then uninstalled everything again. Right-clicked USBMOT2000.INF and
chose Install. Same thing happened. There's no chance to choose a
driver or browse.
If I try to manually install the driver from Control Panel, I can
browse to the driver directory, then choose USBMOT2000. The wizard
then tells me it found a better driver: OEM19. Insists on using that.
Then the Installation Failed message.
My cable's Motorola branded.
I just need to completely remove this stuff. BTW, I had to do a clean
install of Win2K about 3 weeks ago. New HDD

I've got a similar problem, under WinXP SP2. Cable was plugged in prior
to installation, and the install returns the following error "Windows
cannot load installer for modem"
The driver clean up from BVT returns the same error.
Anyone seen this / have any ideas ?
TIA,
Adam

Re: Phone tools problems
Go into Settings: Control Panel: System: Hardware: Device Manager and
delete the motorola phone from Modems, Ports and USB devices. Reboot,
reinstall MPT and THEN plug in the phone when it starts running.

Re: Re: Phone tools problems
Remove your battery for a minute and try again. Sometimes that does the
trick. Also, have you tried it with a different cable?

Re: Re: Re: Phone tools problems
?
I believe the problem's with Windows drivers. The phone itself seems
fine. Windows sees it as a V551. Just won't let me install the driver.

I tend to agree with Spectrum - the phone doesn't appear under Modems,
USB or Ports, and I can't remove anything from modems regardless ( same
error message as mentioned in OP)
