Hello groups:
I have a Verizon E815 and I want to use MPT with it. Is there a difference
between these data cables made by Motorola? A SKN6311C and a AAKN4011A. I
have the AAKN4011A but can't get it to work with MPT 3.25b. Motorola
customer support said I need to use the SKN6311C. What is the difference?
Thanks,
Steve M. in CA.

Re: Difference between data cables
I think they are misguiding you. The pinouts are the same except that
the SKN6311C has the charging port to power your phone while it is
connected to the PC while the cable you have requires that the battery
be fully charged when using it. The charging port lets you plug your
charger into the side of the cable connector.

Thanks BruceR. Where can I find the pinout info? I've Googled but, no
luck.

Re: Difference between data cables
Don't know, I read that it was the same except for the charger input.

Re: Difference between data cables
Steve M., you might try this addy,
http://pinouts.ru/
It mayhap they have that which you seek. Or not. Though you can bet
that they will have soon. I have successfully used the NFO there 4 or 5
times. Good luck.

Re: Difference between data cables
I just got a RAZR that comes with the data cable. If you plug it in to the
computer and the computer reconizes the phone, it will charge. If you plug
it into a powered USB hub not connected to a computer, it will NOT charge.
The computer tells the phone it is OK to charge.
Now to the AC adapter. It has no "smarts" in it. It looks like they use PIN4
of the mini-USB interface to let the phone know it is OK to charge. It looks
like there is a pull-up to +5 on PIN4 of the AC adapter. Most cables have
PIN4 not connected to anything and the phone won't charge. The mini-USB
pigtails I have looked at do not have connection for PIN4.
I will get a raw mini-USB connector and tie PIN4 high with a 100K resistor
and see if the phone will charge.
I will advise as I experiment.
