When I bought my V3,for the first few days, up at the top of
the screen it displayed GPRS. The GPRS changed to read the date.
Being a newbie to GSM, I assumed that it indicated that I was
connected to a GSM network (which my provider is). Has GSM or GPRS
been deactivated? How do I confirm if I my GPRS or GSM is connected?

Another thing I have noticed is my ROAM indicator does not
activate when I travel from Province to Province (I am on a national
    carrier). Is this normal?

If GSM were deactivated you would have a doorstop. GSM is the technology
that your phone and carrier use to provide service. As to whether GPRS
has been deactivated, ask your carrier if there's a problem. You don't
metion where you are or who your carrier is so it's hard to know if
there's a problem. Can you use your WAP browser?

I am able to use the WAP browser, so I guess it is activated.

It's possible to use WAP via GSM too, if the settings (called CSD) are
entered into the appropriate Web Session configuration. When you
connect to a site does the phone display a "Connecting...." or a
"Dialling...." message? The former means you're using GPRS, the latter
    GSM dial-up.

there are seem edits to enable the GPRS icons to display or not, as well as seem edits that enable GPRS to auto attach or to disconnect when done.

    SEEM 010a_0001

    **all offsets are HEX**

    offset 00 - bit 0: GPRS auto-attach at power-on (1 on, 0 off) (if bit 1 is on, auto-attach will be off)
bit 1: GPRS detach after GPRS data session (bit 0 must be on to activate)

    SEEM 0032_0001

    bits: 00000000 <-- binary
    76543210 <-- bit #

    **all offsets are HEX**

offset 40 - bit 1: Display 'GPRS Attached' icon (1 on, 0 off)

offset 60 - bit 0: 'GPRS Active' text with GPRS PDP Context Icons (1 on, 0 off)

offset 68 - bit 4: GPRS Packet Data Transfer Icon (1 on, 0 off)

offset 6B - bit 5: GPRS Packet Data Icon (1 on, 0 off)

    maybe those will help ya.

if you look in the manual there are some pics of the icons.
